  • Right after this came out, eBay stopped showing how many active auctions there were. So I like to think I made an impact on eBay (even if it was a small and negative one).

  • Nice mention Trajan.
  • Yes, straight out of college I wrote some articles for TUFF STUFF.

It was still a newsprint style (before the magazine format).

My first article was the cover story. (beginners luck ?)

Man, that was a long time ago.

    cheers

edit: a small (very small) reward for anyone who can find a copy.

First article a cover story is pretty cool. I have published over 100 articles, and I think I made the cover story 3 times. From my experience, the cover story usually always goes to one of the more "established" writers in the magazine. (Or at least in non-collectible fields).

You know, I just noticed my little write up is under a column on figure skating....so maybe it doesn't really count...image

Speaking of newspapers. Did you that with the arrival of writing and literacy news reports gained added reliability and, in advanced societies like that of Rome and China, became more formal. Rome had a particularly sophisticated system for circulating written news, centered on the acta -- daily handwritten news sheets, which were posted by the government in the Roman Forum from the year 59 B.C. to at least A.D. 222 and which were filled with news of such subjects as political happenings, trials, scandals, military campaigns and executions. China, too, had early government-produced news sheets, called the tipao, which were first circulated among officials during the Han dynasty (202 B.C. to A.D. 221) and were printed at some point during the T'ang dynasty (618 to 906).
  • rube - this country was built on rebellion.

    You are in good company.

edit: did you get the Air force medal card ?

Speaking of chuck, did you know that Chuck steak is a cut of beef and is part of the primal cut known as the chuck. The typical chuck steak is a rectangular cut, about 1" thick and containing parts of the shoulder bones, and is often known as a "7-bone steak". (This is in reference to the shape of the bone, which resembles the numeral '7', not to the number of bones in the cut.) This cut is usually grilled or broiled; a thicker version is sold as a "7-bone roast" or "chuck roast" and is usually cooked with liquid as a pot roast (beef). The bone-in chuck steak or roast is one of the more economical cuts of beef. In the United Kingdom, this part is commonly referred to as "braising steak". It is particularly popular for use as ground beef, due to its richness of flavor and balance of meat and fat.

Rube, send this guy a Sunday special for me if you would.

Edit to add: I don't need to post a resume here, but I do not find my history lacking. I have been all around the world and have done more things the last 10 years then most of you will do your lifetime. (Not trying to brag...just annoyed a little).

If I was to note my most favored honor, it would perhaps be being named a Guardian of Ensisheim Meteorite. It was earned through years of work in a field I was always the least educated, had the longest hair and fought against the grain every step. I imagine you would even think less of it then you do "Tuff Stuff" but it is the greatest honor a group of colleagues I call friends could bestow on me.

I guess what I am trying to say is, be cool.

    That's pretty cool.

I've never accomplished anything to have published.

I have had over the yrs probably 6 letters to the editor published in SCD - no major accomplishment.

Some day - I would like to have an article on Take Me Out to the Ball Game published in SCD or something.

    Thanx for sharing!

  • Rube,

I have a Beckett hockey issue somewhere with a Knuckles article in it (not the one above).

I have exchanged ideas about doing cards with him. I've also done a few custom signature cards for some people.

I'll see if I can find his e-mail if you you want it. (he's much better at it than me)

here is a link to some of my custom cuts.

I don't know how you see that as a "brag." I have been on these boards a couple plus years and just mentioned it...with what, one line. If I thought it was worth bragging about I would have done so years ago, put it in my signature or something. To be honest, I really don't think anything I have done is worth bragging about. There is little I have done that 10 people have not done better.

But anyway, be cool with me, and I will be cool with you.

I have a few autograph articles, but very sports wise under my belt. Next time I run across one of them I will scan one (so some likely drunk person can say I'm bragging of course).

But hey, 6 letters in SCD is pretty cool. If I would have known they would publish those Mike Tyson- Britney Spears rumors....I would have beaten you to them. image

Back in 1999 I was published in Tuff Stuff twice. They were doing a series of articles on various topics counting down to the year 2000. The first time they printed me, they did not include my name, but the second time they did. If I remember correctly, one was an opinion on what athletes influenced the autograph market the most. I can't remember what the second was. I have them both around here somewhere. One had Griffey Jr. on the cover and the other was a white cover with Jordan standing back to.

I also once had a letter published in a now defunct sports card magazine, Collectors Sportslook.

It was cool to see my name and words in print, even if it was just a small paragraph in a magazine.
    Looking for Carl Willey items.

I wrote a couple of articles for Tuff Stuff called Hobby Insider (May 2003, Page 16 and June 2003, Page 18). I also appeared in Beckett when I pulled the 1999 UD SP Top Prospect Michael Jordan Autographed Retrospectives #'d 10/10.
Out of the hobby, but still love my signature cuts.
