80's Cards & Players

I was just reading the “Clemens 84” topic, and it got me thinking of the 80’s & when I first started collecting cards. I wanted the 84 Fleer Update set so much, but the prices were incredible. I couldn’t even afford to buy the 84 Topps Traded set at that time. I remember cutting out dealer adds for the 84 Fleer & Topps Update sets from “Tuff Stuff” (back when “Tuff Stuff” had a newspaper-like format), and just looking at them.
So here is something to think about … Is the 80’s the biggest decade for the most BUSTS or DISSAPOINTMENTS? Some went on to have HOF careers, some fell short, some blew up, steroids, etc.
Gooden
Mattingly
Strawberry
Bonds
Clemens
Puckett
McGwire
Canseco
Palmero
& all those HOT rookies
Sam Horn
Kevin Seitzer
Gregg Jeffries
Vince Coleman
I’m sure I missed a few.
I know that not everyone is expected to have HOF careers, but it just seems that there is a stain or dark cloud hanging over the 80’s Players. Maybe, maybe not. Please discuss your thoughts.

What is the name of that kid in the Yankees farm system, that got a Million dollars a year contract, straight out of high school, that never did anything ?
Another name to throw out there:
Kevin Maas
Oh, and from the 1985 Olympics series; Oddibe McDowell and Cory Snyder

<< <i>How about Joe Charboneau?

I had to Google that one
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
<< <i>I think some of you are confusing what a MLB bust is, to what a cardboard bust is. >>
I was kind of linking the 2 together. Careers & me getting screwed out of my hoped for fortune (baseball cards)

Well, on your list is the likes of Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Kirby Puckett.....these were not MLB busts.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

<< <i>I would forgive you, but you like hockey. >>
Just for that, I will start threads descussing the best & worst of Hockey cards, for each decade.
Perhaps we can also start discussing the biggest hockey busts in this thread
Does LSU have a hockey team ? :-)
paging Owen Nolan ?
More from the 60s: Rick Monday, Jim Ray Hart, Billy Conigliaro. The likelyhood of a talented young player to fail has not changed, the only difference is what you remember
