OT: RIP Irwin Tucker my pet wallaby

Not a good way to start the weekend. Woke up this AM and went out to feed and water my pet wallaby Irwin. He is usually waiting on me in the mornings at the back door just like a dog. However, he wasn't there so I called him and he didn't come which is highly unusual. I went looking for him and found him lying dead in the grass. No signs of a fight with another animal, no fur loss, he wasn't dehydrated, etc. I don't know what killed him. I'm thinking maybe a snake bit him, but I can't find puncture marks as he is heavily furred. Really frustrated right now. Irwin was a great little guy and always brought a smile to mine and my kids' faces. We will miss him. This hasn't been a good few months for our pets. We lost our 14 year old Chihuahua just a couple months ago. Another possibility is something frightened him like a raccoon or possum and he ran into something and suffered a fatal neck/head injury from blunt force. They have poor eye sight and one of the leading causes of them dying is running/jumping into something and injuring their neck/head. I found him right beside my tortoise's cinder block cage so that is a definite possibility. Here's a few pics of Irwin from when he was younger and weighed between 2-15 lbs. He was a lot bigger now and weighed about 30 lbs.

I'm sorry for your loss, Mike. Not knowing how or why is probably just as bad as the loss itself.

    RIP Irwin

How cute! I am very sorry to hear about his demise. It really is painful losing a family pet. Where did you get him? Are they hard to come by? I have not heard of anyone having one before.

    Mike

I'm really sorry to hear this. For many of us, pets are an important part of our family life - my cat, for me, is part of the family.

We lost a cat 2 yrs ago Thanksgiving - I still miss him.

My sympathy/empathy goes out to you and your family. image

Mike I hate to hear that. I really liked the pictures you posted of Irwin before and now my girlfriend wants us to get a wallaby. I hope you can determine the COD. At least it sounds like he did not suffer.

Very sad to hear, you were very nice in giving me the info on Wallaby's when I read about them awhile back. He was adorable.

My Chinchilla, Ike, send her regards...

Very cool pet and sorry for your loss. I have an iguana that is all most 13 years old and he got sick a couple of weeks ago. I really freaked out when it seemed as though he was laying around all the time and when he didn't meet me at the front of his cage to feed him his daily can of green beans I knew something was wrong. He didn't eat for all most a week and I decided to take him to the vet. Come to find out he had a mouth infection which hurts so bad they don't eat and eventually starve to death. He's feeling better now and has a lot more energy then he did before. But I'm not shy to admit it I got really scared. He still freaks my wife out even though we've been married for 10 years. She's mentioned before that I should donate him to a zoo. I tell her no way because he's been with me longer then her.image
