I DID buy this box yesterday but paid "slightly" more than $10.00
Hope you guys had some fun with it. Just meant to be one of those "can you imagine how cool that would be" threads... >>
Back in '85, I bought a couple of '85 Fleer boxes. I ripped all the packs and then thought it would be fun to put them back together and sell them to my brother. I kept all the stars in the mix because I wanted to see my brothers reaction when he pulled the good ones. I was able to craft the packs so that each one had something special. It's a really neat memory.
To heck with the story... just seeing a box of 1986 Topps baseball next to a box of 1986 Fleer basketball takes me back. I spent many a spare lunch monies on 1986 Topps baseball packs, ignoring the basketball and football packs for sale on the same counter.
In hindsight... yeah, hindsight is a "John McCain's wife."

I have the exact same memory from my local convenience store...except I was buying 1987 Topps baseball packs instead. This memory haunted me for years, and was actually the inspiration for me to start putting 86 Fleer sets together 10 yrs ago.
<< <i>on average how many Jordan rc's, and how many jordan stickers do you usually get from a box? >>
3 of each Jordan reg and stickers on average and then every 4th box will yield a 4th Jordan regular or a sticker. of course these are for clean straight from the case boxes, from my experience.
<< <i>i have opened 1 pack of '86 fleer in my life & pulled a jordan rc. >>
I opened three or four packs and pulled a Jordan, but it wasn't a really big deal at that time. Because _most_ collectors and dealers were thinking, "It ain't his true rookie."

For those who don't follow them much, garage sales tend to be on Fridays or Thursdays now. (8 -2 is becoming the norm, most action happening between 8-noon) Not sure why but maybe people don't want to ruin their Saturdays doing them. And in the modern ebay era , most only have them for one day. There are a lot of people looking for things to resell and they won't even stop on the 2nd day of multiple day sales because they assume that everything is picked over.

Yeah, I was skipping past all of it going straight for the Garbage Pail Kids.

I was pretty hardcore into baseball cards in 1986. I used to subscribe to SCD and remembered reading the ad about Fleer coming out with a set of basketball cards. Lo and behold my brothers and I are at a supermarket in the checkout line and I see a fresh box of the Fleer basketball. I grab the box and tell my brother, "Hey check it out, the new Fleer basketball!!". Jokingly, since baseball was were it was at then. We both laughed and I bought ONE pack, just for kicks. Years later I went thru the collection looking for that pack to see if there was a Jordan rookie in it....no such luck. Got a nice Barkley though.
My mother offered to buy me a CASE of '86-'87 Fleer Basketball for my birthday, and I turned it down because I "knowingly" ( ) told her that basketball cards would never catch on like baseball cards.
Talk about wanting to kick myself. Lord have mercy.

I thought I'd blown it by talking a friend out of (who wanted to go half and half with me) a BUNCH of '89 score football factory set cases (for $8 each) in early 1990..."Nobody wants Score, dude...it won't sell like Pro Set will...."......we probably ended up 'investing' that money in 1990 Donruss baseball, instead.
Nope...my story doesn't even compete...you win this one. BIG TIME.
Collecting my sports heroes, Roger Staubach and Kirby Puckett.
My first reaction was that $10 was way too much but I didn't look close enough to realize that they were the 86/87 basketball. Despite all of the junk that I bought during those years, I don't recall seeing any of the basketball packs. That's why I didn't recognize them at first.
