Mr. Lee was a gentleman first and numismatist second.

I am so shocked to hear this news. Jack was a true gentleman and a treasure to the hobby.

There was an earlier Longacre thread about pedigrees. I was thinking of posting that a pedigree with Jack Lee on it is a great asset to any coin.

<< <i>I never met Mr. Lee but I sure knew the name. What a sad, sad shame. Though it has nothing to do with the loss felt by his family, friends, and numismatics, does anyone know his approximate age? >>

    Jack was 76.

He had been infirmed all of last week and for a while it looked like his condition was improving until last night.

Perhaps PCGS and NGC could work together and pay tribute to Jack Lee at the next Baltimore show by asking all owners to bring their Jack Lee coins to the respective PCGS and NGC tables for a display case??? Invite his family and pay our respects to the one and only Jack Lee.

Furthermore walkerguy21D could bring his Parrino catalogue too and display it in its glory as well! I have one too to add!

    Any other ideas?

Very sad -- truly a numismatic legend in Morgan Dollars that will be tough, if not impossible, to surpass.

I got a call about this yesterday and just slumped over. I knew Jack for over 15 years and he was always a pleasure to talk and deal with. Both he and his wife were just really neat, special folks. The hobby lost a wonderful, honest man.

I am quite shocked and saddened to hear of this great human being & collector extraordinaire's sudden passing. As has been stated before he was a kind and giving person to the entire numismatic community. I am proud to have had him as a friend. My condolences to his wife and family.

  • Really sad news............Jack was one of the nicest men you would ever meet anywhere.

I had the privilege of placing several of his duplicate dollars from his first set back in the mid 1990s with one of my West Coast clients who was building a condition census set at the time and I remember how helpful Jack was with information about the Morgan Dollar market.....he always was a wealth of knowledge.

My prayers go out to his wife and family.........

Talked to him many times at the Baltimore shows. He definitely was a class act. I consider myself lucky to have met a man of his stature. I will feel a little lost the next time I`m at that show not to see his smile. image

WOW...I bought coins from him and sold him coins at the ANA and he certainly seemed fine there.

I've known Jack since 1986 and he was showing me expensive coins and talking all about them. I couldn't have bought one of them if my life depended on it, I didn't have the funds. Jack didn't care about that, he jsut liked coins and talking about them.

Always a gentleman form the begining to the end.

Wow...what a bummer. Jack was definitely a great guy. I sat with him at the recent ANA Baltimore show and talked for a bit. I bought my first coin at the show from him. I will certainly miss stopping by and visiting with him at the shows. My condolences to the family. I'm still shocked.

I am so saddened by this news... Jack was a great, great guy. I loved to talk to him about coins he had owned. And he owned some absolutely staggering coins. Wow. This really caught me off guard here. I just saw him at the ANA and we were talking about another friend of ours and he was concerned more about the other friend's health. Didn't say a thing about himself. I hope he wasn't saying anything about himself out of modesty.

Jack was a scholar and a gentleman. It makes me sad that I didn't attend ANA to see him one last time. I always enjoyed talking to him.

<< <i>Oh my god. What a nice man.

    I am very sad.

In memory of Jack Lee: He was an MS-70 man all the way. He was even better than his coins! Such a humble man too. He was so honest that his memory wasn't perfect after his stroke of about 6 years ago.

Wish I had one of those as a memento
  • I had dinner with him last year and will never forget the experience. A fine gentleman.

    RIP

My best reminiscence of Jack relates to the conversation I had with him in Baltimore several years ago. We had both come to an agreement on which Morgan Dollar would be the first to reach the million dollar mark at auction. It is a Proof date, and he spoke very openly about the specific coin that had eluded him and wished me well in my quest to obtain the same.
