How can I tell which one I have the plain/crosslet 4, stem or no stem? (Sorry if this is a stupid question)
You have to watch out for yourself, because nobody else is going to. Especially during dodge ball.

Plain 4:
Note the difference at the far right side of the "4". One has a little crosslet running perpendicular to the line.
Stem:
Stemless:
Look at the area below the wreath; one type has a pair of stems jutting out toward the legend, while the other does not.
