Yup, last night while eating some Cheetos, I found one and it was shaped like a little person. It had arms legs, a head, and what looked like a bikini top and I'm sitting there thinking who does this look like and all I could come up with was the Predator. Anyway, I set it aside thinking I can't eat that, it could be worth a ton of dough, remembering those idiots that auctioned a cornflake, the french fry the sandwich that looked like the virgin mary....I waited all of 5 minutes, then ate the little guy.

Why didn't you put it on eBay as Jesus? Probably could have made a few bucks image

Waffles are pretty cool. They're also pretty cheap now compared to what they were bringing when they first hit the market.

I do not really understand these waffle cancelled coins.

So, they are out of spec somehow and the mint sees them as unfit for circulation. So they destroy them.

Aren't these supposed to go into the melting pot?

How are they escaping the mint?

Are employees stealing these coins and reselling them?

Surely the mint does not have a policy of covertly supplying error coins to dealers through back-channels?

I've seen enough of these around to make me think that the supply is intentional. Therefore, this isn't an error coin in the sense that the mint attempted to prevent it from getting to the public. Or rather, that attempt to keep these errors from getting out has a huge hole in it!

Better get in on this slabbed piece of waffled discard dollar before it is gone.

Nothing could be rarer - except maybe the person that will bid over $200.00 for the thing.

    Now at $172.50 .... going .... going ............

Russ, buddy - I think most modern mint products could be inserted in to the above statement in place of "Waffles"image

True, but most modern mint products suck. At least the waffles look cool.

        Winning bid: US $268.00

Man, I'm really stuuuupid some days but don't think I've ever been THAT ................ image

The reason for the waffling and the attraction for the bidders was one and the same: the Missing Edge Lettering. Maybe it's not "worth" $268, but it cost the bidder less many of the unwaffled Adams MEL dollars out there. image

Seems to me that if the Mint found Coins that were missing edge lettering - they could just throw it ( or them ) into the edge-lettering machine. However, if the Coin(s) were found to be defective before the edge-lettering process, then of course they would be trashed and sent to the waffling machine. So a Coin missing edge-lettering because of this reason isn't worthy of being called a plai-edge, is it?

Aren't all waffled Coins meant to be scrap ( trash)? I can't understand why anyone would want to pay good money for trash, that's all.

I guess it's like they say, one mans trash is anothers treasure. image
