Very nice specimen. Uncommon in the 65-67 range.

The pics show a nice clean cheek, a gem for sure.

Whats going on @ 12 o'clock? Denticles appear mushy from here.

you'll get more solid offers in the 65/66 range if it's actually slabbed as 65/66...
that being said... let me ponder!

I think people are weary of this coin being raw and such a presumed high grade where the price jumps considerably.

It's sad to say, but put it in PCGS or NGC plastic and you probably won't have trouble selling it at clost to a 65 price if the holder says that.......image

  • Honest opinion time.

From a basic search, I see you are probably in or near Maryland. If you really believe the coin is a 65+ and you want to sell it raw, I would recommend you to ask Julian Leidman. He is a forum member here and a dealer of the highest professionalism and integrity. His website is www.juliancoin.com and he will give you a fair and honest opinion and the best possible price if he is interested in the item.

I 100% think you should submit this coin to PCGS for grading.. I can't see you getting a good offer from anyone on this coin raw. An MS65 1887-s is in a whole different category from an MS64.. 3k vs 700 bucks. I would never pay over 1k for an ungraded coin, but that is just me.. It's definitely worth the $30 normal grading fee, especially if it grades MS66 ($9k).. Good luck!
  • Bump...Thanks for the advice...if I get not offers in the next week I will send it off for grading and if it comes back a 66, let's just say you'll be sorry you didn't get it for my price which is a 65 price.image

WHAT! Are you SERIOUSLY asking 3K for a RAW coin that COULD prove to have "altered surfaces"? image

    SLAB IT!
  • You're looking for an offer on a picture of an 87-S that you have and are not quite sure what she will grade?

Here's my offer- $65.00 plaine and simple- I'll send it in for grade. At best it will grade a 63, and could possibly bag for cleaning. If she grades at 63 or better- I would give you an additional 5% of the fair market value above $65.00 if it grades at a 3- your out, and if she bags- I'll send the coin back to you expecting a full refund of what I paid = the cost of submision- which would be $30.00 + insurance.

    That's how confident I am about this not being a 65 or a 66.

Sorry if this is blunt- but I'm pretty sure I know Morgans a little.
  • Forget it!image

If you send it for grading and it comes back as a 65 or a 66, we'll all be happy for you that it did.
