Anyone else check out The NEW Beckett??

Wow.......what a bunch of nothing, and hard to navigate in my opinion.........the old one had a few merits, this one has none.

    It's horrible...
  • I only use it to keep track of my player collections so I checked it out this morning and I couldn't even log in with my user name and password. If I have to reregister, obviously I would lose all player collections I have in there, I have never seen a company sabotage itself the way Beckett does, first they completely screw up the price guides and now this.

Looks like they changed it from a reference site where people could buy stuff to a strictly e-commerce site. They may make money from it in the long run, but they've just turned off hoards of long-time users who will likely never give them another dime. This would be the equivalent of PSA if they removed the message boards, increased membership and submission fees, and started charging for the registry all on the same day. If Beckett was smart they would've slowly implemented the new changes over time and it wouldn't have seemed so drastic. The average lunkhead Beckett user probably wouldn't have even noticed.

Yeah, doesn't seem to be a good move. The only part of the site that was really doing anything was the message boards, which took me a while to find and I didn't even try to figure out how to post or the like.

I did find a #/100 Steve Young card for a $1.50 in the Beckett marketplace..so at least that is not totally messed up yet.

Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

Basically I think they've given up on their registry. It looks to me like it will be lumped in with the My Organize stuff which also includes raw stuff. If this is the case, I'll be upset as I have a 61 Fleer Basketball set registered with them. I don't see the point in crossing to PSA as I'm not going to sell it but graded (and competitive) registries need to be separated from raw. It's stupid, especially with vintage, to think otherwise.

Looks like there may still be "regular message boards"?

    LINK

EDIT TO ADD: I guess it doesn't have anything to do with beckett it's just the users who left and now started there own forum or something?

yep there are several users that have migrated to other sites or started new ones themselves.

    What a trainwreck.

Ever since Dr. Beckett sold out a few years ago, the new owners are on a mission to cash in on the Beckett name as much as possible. I think they paid around $20 million for Beckett which was at the peak of the buyout craze. They probably paid too much and are freakin out on how to get the $$$ out.

I just went to the site for the first time in a few weeks. It accepted my log-in and says it still has all of "my collections" saved. They are under the Header "Organize". At the moment, they will not show them to me--instead I got a pop-up message that says "Welcome to Organize! Please be patient while we convert your collection(s). You are currently in position 4333. You will receive a message in your beckett.com inbox when the conversion is complete."

Who knows how long it will take--but if they are saved, that would be nice.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • I have not read to many positive opinions on the new site. Most of it is people that have yet to spend the time to figure it out. I was a Beta tester and couldnt navitage my way around and gave up trying to help months back.

The other issue is charging to trade. TheBench will get alot of old BMB traffic.

  • I've heard nothing but bad things about the new site.

  • I gave up on Beckett a few months back. I didn't like the magazine format change and I really don't like how they've changed their website. It's horrible. Not to mention on the old website it took forever to load. I base the value of my cards off of whether I like them or not. And if I decide to sell, ebay is much better at telling me what something is worth than Beckett.

so true.....when it was sold, that is when I SOLD! BGS SOLD OUT AT THAT POINT
  • A couple of weeks ago, you could find out values for all grades (good, excellent, near mint, etc.). With the new format, it seems like they only list high and low Beckett values, unless I'm missing something.
  • The new Beckett reminds me of.........

Tried to navigate the BMB and came across an article about authentication companies. I thought the following line was amusing:

In addition, check with the Better Buiness Bureau of Southern California about the number of complaints filed against PSA.

Ok, question. have they eliminated competitive registries? The whole My Collection import thing happened for me and I don't think they have real registries any more. WTF?
