Reasons such as? I cannot think of any coins which should be in a slab. I can think of plenty of coins which should be authenticated, but that's a different issue and a mere historical contingency that we think of the two as being related.

I prefer raw coins in an album to slabbed coins in boxes. However, slabbed coins in an album are not so bad.
