I've landed a good deal at $14-$14.50 lately, less the $1 in silver that is worn off of them.

When they come in loose over the counter, I pay 11- 11.50 for Peace @ 21 Morgans, and F < Morgans. I do a bit better on Nicer VF-AU Morgans and pay 12-14. All nice XF and betters go to E-bay where they sell at 17-18 each per coin. The junk, cleaned , dark morgans and all common peace get sold to the local flea market vendors at 13.00 each. They in turn sell them at 15-16 bucks I believe. I move em fast, they sit and sell one or two at a time.

Local B&Ms here pay 8-9 times face for culls, a little more for VF +.

I can get them for 12X, which is below melt, at this time.

That's sort of what I thought... With silver being around $18/oz and there being around 3/4 of an oz of silver in a Morgan dollar (around $14 worth) I should be paying perhaps just over that sum for bulk Morgans.

My local B&M is charging $20

Smitty... after you pay the $13... how much do you turn them around for? I understand that you need to keep the lights on and eat, so you need to make a profit.

I haven't checked for a couple months, but at that time the dealer that I do business with was getting a premium for Morgans from one of those companies that puts together sets for sale in magazines & TV commercials...the price of commons was about $16.00 at that time.

AMPEX is paying 15.50 per VG or better
so I can't understand why dealers would be selling for less than that

"AMPEX is paying 15.50 per VG or better"

That must have dropped this week because their website is listing BUY @ $13.81 each for G or better Morgans right now.

Several dealers are paying $15.50 for VG & better pre-'21 Morgans, as of today. SCPM is one example.

Just to clarify the question, are you talking about 1921 Morgans or pre-1921 Morgans?

no. i would want to buy at what dealers pay.. 13-14 each. in other
    words the going melt rate.

i have no idea why CaptHenway laughed at this price range.
but maybe i have a feeling he was thinking problem free nice looking
XFs... while i am thinking non-eye appealing grades all over coins...
also his point about the dates makes a lot of sense too.

You have to figure in shipping for selling to places APmex and such. Many people forget to figure this . If I can sell at say 13.50 locally vs shipping to somebody at 14.00 its foolish for me to do so. In fact, just 15 minutes ago, i sold 25 common $ to a local flea vendor at 13.50 each!!

To pay what the dealers pay, you have to be a dealer. In other words, rent a storefront, hire staff (or yourself) and commit to a lot of overhead.

As a dealer, I can wholesale my surplus average circ. 1921 Morgans and common date Peace dollars for $15 per. For pre-21's I get more.

The OP asked what he should pay for common Morgan dollars. He later clarified the question to limit them to pre-1921's. I assume that he is not a dealer asking what he should be paying over the counter. That would mean that he is asking what he should pay for them RETAIL. If I can WHOLESALE the 1921's and Peace for $15 per, it is laughable to suggest that the OP should be able to buy dollars RETAIL for $14 per or less.

Exactly... I'm not a dealer, and I realize that dealers need to "keep the lights on" and pay for overhead, so a certain amount of profit is to be expected. However, I also realize that this isn't the sole source of income for a dealer... so I guess the question is... what's reasonable here? Is $20 each for common-date (pre-1921) Morgans in VF/XF condition reasonable?

You could probably find some in my $18 junk box. For $20 you might find some lower end AU's.
    Hope this helps.
