Fake 1969 Jackson??

I picked up an off-condition 1969 Reggie Jakcson a couple of weeks ago of the bay for a reasonable price but when I compare the back to my other 69s, it seems to be a bit brighter. Is the this a tell tale sign of a fake? Is there anything else I can check for to verify it's authenticity? I really prefer raw cards so grading it is out of the question unless I'm about to sell it..even then, I'd give it a 2 maybe a 3. I tried searching for it but the only thing I could find was a busted link to Beckett.com Thanks for your help guys!

Do you have a scan of the card?

Best thing to do is throw up a scan here so we can see it and give a better opinion.

if its in "off condition," I'd doubt its a fake (for a 40 year old card)

The backs on the 1969 Topps cards vary quite a bit. I have some with a very dull color and some very vibrant.
    I think you are OK.

I also have some that are very bright and some that are not.

Here's all I could find about fake 1969 reggie cards. I guess see if you can make a high resolution scan of the purple area up top and one of the letters in "athletics".

I think as long as it doesn't say reprint on the back you're good.
  • Thanks everyone for the quick responses. I haven't hooked up my scanner yet so no scans but I thoroughly checked over the front of the card and compared it to my other 2 69s and everything seemed as bold and as sharp as the card in question. The only thing that caught my eye is the bright back. Unless the Kaline and Drysdale examples I'm comparing it to are also fake, I'm pretty confident it's the real deal image Thanks again!!
  • congrats!

I can appreciate someone letting us know what to look for in as far as spotting counterfeits , but what about the guy that has been trying to make the counterfeits , now he has some tools in the shed when he makes his next print run , making it that much harder to spot the counterfeit ?

    I dunno . . . seems like a double edged sword

You can't make the solid line with a laser printer. It's the best way of telling counterfeits. And the forgers already know, they just rely on buyers not knowing.

Probably not , but what if you had knowledge of printing and lets say worked at a printing shop and were able to get hold of the card stock . . .

Just sayin , this stuff can't be as hard to reproduce as Currency and they sem to be doing a damn good job at that all the time .
  • that looks like a great book, what is the title and how did you get a copy, thanks
