Can someone tell me what happened to this penny???

    It's not a lamination, from viewing the scan.

    It appears that glue, or some other material,
    was dropped on the obverse surface, giving
    this appearance.

    It does not look like any error type, imo.

    What does the reverse look like?

    My best uneducated guess is that the planchet had a quality control issue. With the date so clear over the 'blob', this would be my 'swag'.

    Used as a fuse is also my opinion.
