What I hate about online auctions...

...I hate buying coins online, especially from unknown sellers on eBay or other auction site. In person you can buy or pass at will while knowing exactly what you're getting.
...I hate coins that are pictured differently or hiding unseen problems. This doesn't need to happen when purchasing sight-seen, in person.
...I hate the fact that I need to wait a LONG time for the coin(s) to arrive. In person, it might just take a minute for a transaction to be completed.
...I hate to see packaging that is hideous. Coins are packaged, usually, by the dealer (i.e. slab or 2x2), and then your handling liability after the purchase.
...and I hate the suspense of knowing that your coin should arrive any day now and it doesn't show up. In person you can enjoy your coin the moment it was paid.

Now, WHERE IS MY DARN COIN image

I fell like I'm sounding like SaintGuru, maybe Gecko image

Now, list your own online auction hatred.........boy I hate ranting, but I can't sit still.

The thing I hate about online auction is that everyone else in the world can see them too. Makes cherrypicks a lot tougher!

Oooo damn, that's happened to me twice so far! Can't blame them for making the post, they were good threads, but it still smarts!

Things get better when the mailman brings the coin.
All the concerns of lost items or tricky photos go away. (hopefully)

Auctions are way better than mail bids!!!!image
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

I love auctions. I have bought thousands of coins from ebay auctions. I have never bought a coin from a show or a BM dealer.

Without ebay I would not have an awesome error coin collection.

When I'm buying, I don't really have anything specific that's given me problems. The coins I've received have pretty much looked like the pictures in the listings, the packaging has been adequate, and I don't mind waiting for the package to be delivered. Selling can be another thing, however...

...I hate selling to buyers who complain once they have the coin that there's no way the coin that was advertised as "BU" will ever grade MS65. Even when it wasn't described as such and based on the picture, MS63 was probably the best one could hope for and 15% back of bid for MS60 is what they paid.

...I hate people who email me an hour after the auction ends and want to know when their coin is shipping. What do you want me to do? Spend time answering your emails, or ship your coin?

...I hate when people write to find out if there's a cheaper way to ship their stuff when I'm already charging them less than it costs me to get it to them. I really don't think some people have been to the post office since stamps were a nickel.

...I hate when people send me multiple emails in week following the auction, asking where their coin is. I mailed it the very next day after their payment arrived (just like it says in the auction listing and in the "Item Shipped" email I sent them when I received their payment), but I'm not the post office and as much as I'd like them to, they won't rush shipments "just for me".

I donlt hate online auctions since it definitely broadens the scope of what I can look at. Having a return policy is a definite plus as well and just like shipping costs are supposed to be absorbed by the seller I consider return shipping to just be a cost of looking.

Its still a lot cheaper than 10 gallons of gas to go to and from the Bay area.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

  • It seems like online auctions really increase the potential for fraud as well.

Hate online auctions because there is always stuff I can't afford and I get it anyway because of the easy access.

it was better when you had to travel to the auction. I never bought anything that way.

Try being an Astros fan- at least Boston wins one every 89 years or so.

I like online auctions because they greatly increase the number of coins I have to choose from. I dislike having my coins mailed to me in a stapled baggie, as recently happened.

    Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I love the idea that hundreds if not thousands of people see my coin for sale!
I love being able to get market price instead of dealer price when I sell!
I don't mind waiting for a nice coin to arrive....love the anticipation!
I love the idea that I got a rip on ebay off some dumb seller!

    need I go on?
