The book: Numismatic Forgery

Does anyone else here have this book and like it?
It's a very interesting book on counterfeit coins and forgeries, and the difference between the two. It goes into GREAT detail about the minting processes, the counterfeiting process, casting, transfer-to-transfer dies, spark erosion counterfeits, a type of die made with a shotgun (Haven't read that part yet..)
Personally I find it very hard to understand certain parts, especially if you do not have a good solid foundation knowledge in metallurogy.(sp?)
It talks about lathes and how you can make die parts with lathes, but it doesn't really explain in detail what a lathe is. Reading from the book can seem pretty complicated, as for me at least it seems hard to understand what the author is saying without seeing the action in process. It talks about "differential shrinkage", which is what happens when you make a cast counterfeit, the diameter is off due to the casting process. That is why alot of ancient coins are cast counterfeits.
Personally I find the introduction very interesting. The book is almost a "how to" guide on counterfeits.
It talks about how counterfeiters melt down a 20 dollar gold coin which they can get low grade for melt (This is also useful for getting the right fineness for subsequent counterfeit coins) in which they can make 20 $1 gold coins, which have a higher premium over their melt than the 20 dollar pieces.
I took a counterfeit detection class with brian Silliman in phoenix at the ANA show pre-convention seminiar, and I remember authenticating dollar coins were pretty hard, due to their small size.
Anyway, I recommend this book, that is, if you're interested in a very technical explaination of forgeries, and how they are made. It's a very interesting read. I think you can buy it at amazon.
Ah, here we go.

"explosive impact copying" p.81
