Is the economy affecting you in coin sales?

I haven't been on this board in over a year. But, I placed some quality coins on ebay recently and found that the bids were nowhere near the reserve I had set. Is this true for all of you out there.. I have some quality coins for sale and I just wasted 75.00 dollar in fees. ColonialCoinUnion, help me!

I haven't been looking to sell anything internet based lately, so I can't help you.

I know that my collector-dealer sales have been promising.
  • I was receiving less that half of the value for the gold coi an the colonial was not worth mentioning. I ended up eating $75.00.

Try selling to some dealers at the ANA.
I manage money. I earn money. I save money .
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.

  • I've bought and sold, in the past, to quite a few well known persons but the sales have slowed down.

My recent groups of XF and AU key date/ low pop Barber Halves have done exceedingly well on eBay. I set no reserve. It's just a really good time for profit taking on that series, from which I have bought into my other favorite series with the proceeds.

I have tried to use e-bay as little as possible in recent months. I have found it better to deal with dealers and I have also found higher quality stuff from dealers over e-bay for comparable prices.

Oh and I am enjoying life a lot more not trying to post auctions every week like I had for the last 5 years or so. image

When "reserve not met appears" many/most potential eBay buyers move on to something else. Personally, I won't bid on anything on eBay that has an unstated reserve or a high starting price.

That said, it may be that the market actually has cooled off in recent months. The ANA show should reveal a lot about the state of the coin market.
    All glory is fleeting.
  • I list about one hundred coins every week on ebay - almost all at .99 start and no reseve. The last 2-3 months have been horrible. I am basically treading water and ebay used to be quite good for me. Coin shows still are doing fine.

  • Mine have been down as well. Even items that I thought would sell good haven't and my BIN are not even getting any offers.

I haven't been a seller but I have noticed that the few coins I've watched are still being bid/sniped into moon money. As usual, the combination of rarity and unusual quality seems fairly immune to the laws of gravity -- at least where I've seen it.
