Question about Mint cello and Proof sets

All-
I was lucky enough to get some older proof sets this week end in anticipation of the lincoln cent chages in 2009.
However, I have noticed that on my 57, and 59 proof sets, the cello that the mint used is starting to crack. Its all original mint, card, envelope etc etc. Is this normal? I assume it is because lets face it, 50 year old cello should get a bit brittle. The coins look fantastic, I just got a 16X loop and everything looks OK.
How do you folks deal with this? Leave them in the envelope?

Is there a better maker of the holders? Just curious, otherwise I can google it and go nuts.
<< <i>These guys LINK claim their product is the best, but I find Airtite holders are fine. >>
Thanks.
By the way, another very naive question:
When I put the coins in these holders, would this detract from the value of having original mint packaging? I can keep the coins that are not affected in the cello, but I wonder if that would impact the overall value?
I do not know what the perception is about original packaging versus, hey, the coin was at risk, so I had to put it in an air tight holder.
Does anyone have experince with that?

Just a bit, a dealer would offer you 20% back of bid and not 15% back of bid with the cello packs!!
