Tired of watching grass grow? Watch 2004 Plat Sell on eBay

Don't matter if you love Plat Eagles or hate them - watching them sell has got to be fun in both cases.
Up for bids are 4 examples of the 2004 1 oz Proof Platinum Eagles, all in PCGS PF69DCAM. Currently these are bid at close to melt.

#3 ends Jul-23-08 19:53:36 PDT

I personally already own 2 of these, seeing them sell so poorly , makes me very unhappy.

Guess we won't know until the plat lady sings
And they are discriminating buyers at that!

It think that it is possible that those who follow the plats may be anticipating that the '08's will be the new low mintage keys leading some to unload the '04s fearing that they could approach melt if the '08s come in very low. Just my opinion, of course.
I love the Plat series FullStrike and am in awe of someone that loves it so much they will take such a risky chance at safisfaction.

<< <i>Wow! Someone paid $2300 for the right to send a money order with a hope they get a coin from a feedback of 4!

Not much risk if you use a credit card thru Paypal and do a charge back. Can't help but notice a dealer bought the first coin.
Plat #2 went for $2,583.00 - not as bad as getting melt but surely nothing like a couple years ago.
<< <i>Plat #1 was pulled! Seems like eBay doesn't like sellers that try to avoid using PayPal.

The PM's just need to stablize a little, after all what did these cost from the mint $800ish that's almost 300% profit in 4 years. The advantage is if PM's do drop in the future these coins will retain much of their present value unlike bullion.
To contrast with that price, I ordered a complete 2002 4 coin Proof Set for $1375.00. Sort of gives one an idea of why there was buyer resistance in 2004 toward the Plat Proofs.
<< <i>Just looked at my past order history with the US Mint. With much difficulty I was able to uncover an order on 2-26-05 for 1 - 2004 1 oz Platinum Proof - I paid $1345.00 for it.

there was a 25% price increase for the 2004 vs the 2003 proof sets from the mint. Guess it may take awhile for me to recoup the almost $3k I paid for the 04 1/2oz proof.
"rare bullion"? if you like that oxymoron, here are a few more for you
