Latest pickup - an 1858 Liberty Seated dollar

Here's my latest pickup.....a really nice, PCGS graded, PR-63, 1858 Liberty Seated dollar. The coin has beautiful mirrored fields (scans don't really show), and is toned in very attractive gold/violet hues. I would say that the number, and severity, of marks on the coin's surfaces are typical, perhaps a tad less, than the average proof 63 Seated dollar. I like the originality of the coin....not the typical dipped out, proof, Seated dollar.

<< <i>So how could one know this is a proof coin if it was not slabbed.

Well for one.....the 1858 is a proof only year in the Liberty Seated dollar series. In addition, you have the sharpness of strike, squared rims, mirror-like fields, etc., etc., that are diagnostics of proof coins.

Not too long ago I thought owning an 1858 Proof Dollar
would have been the culmination of my collecting. Its
that rare, IMHO. Great coin, Dan. Congratulations !!

But you gotta quit copying my every move! I pick up a 73-cc in XF, you pick one up. I get a PF-63 1858, you get a PF-63 1858. I bet I know who's going to buy the next AU-55 1872-cc dollar that comes up for sale!
JK, it's always nice to see your newest pick ups!

Mark,
I was thinking the exact same thing.....very strange. I may have to wait awhile on the 72-CC though.
