Me, too! A minor annoyance but an annoyance just the same. Best match should be eliminated as an option. To me, it seems like random sort.

"Best Match" ties back to their "new and improved" search feature, which I notice I'm being "opted in" to test again with some frequency. Don't expect it to go away any time soon.

No...... our ebay sales dropped to 1/10 of what they were in the time period that elapsed between the two conferences, so I sent an employee, as sadly this was not worth my time.
I do not blame eBay entirely for the big drop in business we are doing with them. A combination of refocusing efforts to our website, and competition selling more merchandise on ebay than the modern market could ever possibly absorb (without making prices tumble, which is exacty what happened) has driven us elsewhere.

<< <i>Maybe they will have to modify the FB rules.
How about no fees if an item doesn't sell.
2-4% flat fee, or no FVF? They'll have to do something.
What will be the next promotion? >>
No fees for listing and no selling means the site gets swamped with overpriced spammers hoping a fish will bite. That is one factor in killing the no-fee listing sites. A few sellers put up everything they had, and hoped for one or two to stick, if not they hit relist. Potential buyers were forced to wade through all the trash listings to try and find something priced competitively. Perhaps, if they gave a rebate of listing fees for 99 cent starters that realize over $10, that might be a small incentive. A small listing fee is a small stick to prevent the site from being overrun with junk listings.
Everytime there is a flat buy-it-now listing promotion, the site gets swamped with stuff. It would be like that all day, every day if there was no listing fee, and what didn't sell would get relisted. Cycle that through a few times and all that will remain is overpriced garbage floating in cyberspace, relisted time after time--a good way to kill the business.
My opinion is that there is no easy solution to what ails the company, with sequential top line down 2% (total dollar volume of all items sold). The low hanging fruit is plucked. More growth likely requires more than simple easy to do things, more than getting a longer ladder, so to speak.

Isn't "Best Match" eBays way of bringing Top Seller products to the top of the search list? Rewards for those that are powersellers that have high feedback levels.
"Your search standing is raised Because of your excellent customer service, your listings may receive higher placement in search results when sorted by Best match. Continue to improve your buyer service to further increase the visibility of your listings."
This is almost along the same lines as "feedback extortion" in that to get your product (i.e. coins) to show up in the search list, you need to have high seller ratings and good feedback! I'm not saying this is a bad thing but I would expect that a search is simply a search with out eBay manipulating the "results" of the search.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Best Match is a complex scheme designed to maximize sell-through-rate (STR) on the site. The algo design is FAR from seller-centric, and the carrot/stick of raising/lowering search standing for the average seller is illusory-hype.
A read of the boring patent application is critical to understanding that BM is both easily manipulated AND designed ONLY to maximize FVFs.
EBAY is, on a good day, a $7.00 value-stock masquerading as a growth-stock.
NOTE: Folks who think Donahoe was not FULLY groomed/approved by Meg, lack understanding of the inner-workings of EBAY. Meg is still "in charge," and her reign of anti-working-class terror will NOT end until Lorrie Norrington's troops get the green light to clean house.
