What varieties should I look for?

I hope to get some good responses from this thread.

Im going to be attending the ANA Baltimore show at the end of this month. Im looking to sell afew coins, and buy, then sell some more.

Im looking for raw or slabbed coins that are not noted as a variety. Cherrypicking.

I know some dealers frown on this, but I really dont care. I dont plan on being obvious or rubbing it in their noses.

On my current hit list are:
1983-84 Double die Lincolns.
1946 D over D Jefferson
1990 no S Lincoln ( I know but I can dream.)
1961 DDR Franklin Pr
1964 AH Half
1888/7 IHC
1873 DDO IHC
1972 DDO Lincoln ( anyone of the many)
1917 DDO Lincoln
1936 DDO Lincoln
Any and all Ike varieties ( Not easy trying to remember all of them

)
1964 D DDR dime
1946 DDR Walker
1956 T1 Franklin Pr (I love cherrypicking these bad boys)

Now I know Im missing some, so please feel free to throw afew in the mix... Any series and any denom works for me. I like them all. Just something cool.

Wide AM 1998, 1999, 2000 Lincolns. Just in case they have ultra modern Lincolns. And the 1992 P/D Close AMs.

i've always found the 1946-S Jefferson nickel DDO.....it has a neat diagnostic that appears to be a struck through bristle/fiber (staple?) in Ole' Jefferson's ponytail

I think you should keep a little log of what you cherried and from who and put it into a show report format.. would make an interesting read when you get back

Nice! I have both editions of CPG, but find hearing some of what collectors go for is just as useful.

Don't forget the 42 D/D Jeff, the 43/2 Jeff, the 43 DDO Jeff, the 39 D DDO1, the 42 DDO2, the 45 DDR1, and someone already said the 46S.

I know most of the varieties for most series, but there are a few things I look for that eliminates all the cherry pickers lists. I look for over dates, obvious double dies, obvious die clashes and if the variety or error cannot be seen with the naked eye or a 5X loop then it's most likely not very valuable. I definately don't waste my time on errors I have trouble seeing with a 10X loop. I always carry a 10X triplet loop because it doesn't distort the coin magnification. I advise investing in one.

I eleminate many coins by this method, and save myself a ot of time. Usually varieties and errors are obvious, and rare, so you can't expect to find very many that the dealer hasn't already noticed.

Good luck on these without being obvious...I was hoping to do some cherry picking at the ANA in Denver 1996 and got shut down on this activity by more than one dealer.

For what it's worth they don't want you taking up space at their table.It's bring 'em in,turn 'em upside down,see how much money falls out of their pockets and get 'em out.

If you try this though,here's a tip.Don't be observed with a loupe on a lanyard hanging from your neck and leave your Cherry picker guide out of sight of the dealer,aka moneybags.Commit as much as you know what to look for to memory.

I did manage to "pick" a 1901 O over horizontal O dime from a dealer at the show in 1996.Didn't need a loupe though.

Some great coins are going on to this, bigger than expected list of mine.

I never carry a copy of CPG with me at a show, just 3 small pieces of paper. One with a list of dealers to see, and one with dates and the description of what Im looking for. The last is for notes about prices and coins Ive seen.

I use a loupe for everything. I have 2. One is a 10x and the other is a triplet loupe. I prefer the 10x because I can see almost any and everything.

I have never found the 1888/7 IHC, YET!
The 1936 ddo Lincoln I have cherried 3. Not MS pieces mind you, but nice none the less.
Also I have found 3-4 of the 1917 Lincolns. Circulated and pulled from bulk lots, but hey, they were there.

It looks like he have a great selection ofcents, nickles, and dimes so far. With afew hal;fs thrown in the mix.
How about some older varieties and some Ikes and Kennedy's?
