1812 half dollar- is this a Capped Bust variety?

Given that there are numerous Capped Bust half dollar varieties, I was wondering about this one: hopefully the pic shows it, but a number of the stars are "dripping" towards the coin's edge. Is this something that took place during the minting process? Or is this something incidental that can happen outside teh mint (heat??). Basically..... is this a known variety perhaps?

  • Yes, it's a Capped Bust Half. Is there a way to show the reverse?

Yes, it is a known variety...unfortunately it is not the "Small 8" listed on the 2X2. It is Overton 104a...an R-1 (very common).

Edit to add: The "dripping stars" are an artifact of the worn die.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
