Do you guys then expect the seller to refund only the actual cost of the item sans shipping?
How about this novel concept? Instead of negging the guy how about if the buyer simply emailed the seller and explained that for 6.00 a bubble mailer should be the minimum?
I too have NP with spending 6.00 for a PWE with 42 cents postage AS LONG AS the item comes as advertised it is the time it comes all crushed that I would have a problem. To that end I'd email them.
I'm kinda stunned it's still alive too and I posted it. I got to work this morning and checked if there were any hot topics and I see this thing is still going with six pages of posts. It's fun to read all the different directions it has gone. I should clarify that the guy was aware of the shipping charge and thinks he got a great bargain on the item; he was just pissed off about how the item was shipped. He's simmered now.
Depends on what you mean by crushed. If it looks like a truck ran over it than it would not matter how it was shipped.
I used to have a regular buyer who specifically told sellers NOT to use bubble mailers he said all the cards he ever recieved damaged were due to the USPS putting bubble mailers in the machines and ripping them open.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
If a seller is one of those people who hate licking stamps and uses the sponge/water method of affixing stamps, can he charge for the water? If so, what would be a reasonable amount to charge above normal S&H charges, or should it be included in S&H?
All this and i get a package today I am pretty peeved about the shipping on. I paid 7.99 shipping for the item a box of cards, I get a notice left to pick it up at the PO tommorow, knowing the carrier gets back in about 2 I go up there about 3 and find a postage due package for 4.58 the seller sent the item Media Mail for 2.58 and it got inspected and they automaticaly upgraded it to Priority.
Had I not had to pay the extra I would not be upset, but the fact I had to pay extra for it. Waiting for his response..
just to clarify: my one post was about the guy that was complaining about paying 25.00 for shipping and it only cost the seller 18.10 to ship. as far as the PWE for .42 charging 6.00 yes it sucks but as I said before figure your cost of shipping plus the price of the card on what you are willing to pay for it. Ebay has not made it easy for any sellers as of late and not going to make it any easier in the future.
But just remember " I hate everyone" and this is JMO.

I was not complaining, rather, telling my recent experience by getting ripped on shipping and insurance. I done nothing but call the seller on his little stunt of making me pay for full insurance and Priority Mail, while only partially insuring my package and sending first class. Obviously, it was cheaper for the seller, and he was hoping to pocket the difference. That is not right. If my card had arrived damaged, I probably would have had heck trying to collect a FULL refund on a package that was PARTIALLY insured.
Not all, but alot of sellers play this game in hopes of never being called on it by the buyers. If they can get away with it, and skim some profit for their pocket, it will only continue. If I pay for Priority Mail, it better be sent Priority Mail. If I pay for fully insured, it better be fully insured. That's the only honest and right way to conduct business, no matter how twisted some on here want to make it.
Only a foolish person would be ok with paying $6 for shipping, and making the statement as long as it arrives safely that they are ok with the .42 stamp and PWE. Why would you be ok with giving your money away, that was basically cheated from you by a dishonest seller who just wanted to pocket your money? That's mere ignorance..

I completely agree with your opinion on this. If a seller says they're shipping something priority mail and charge you for the service, I expect the package to arrive via priority mail too. Otherwise the seller owes me a shipping refund.
Same with insurance. If I'm getting charged for it, it had better be on the label or denoted somewhere in the auction listing that they use another insurance vendor other than USPS like CIA to cover their losses.
All sellers should follow through on what they are offering on their listings for service, ie.... insurance, type of shipping - priority mail, registered mail, etc.... if they don't, buyers do have the right to complain about it.
I think most of us here are reasonable buyers, we just want decent service for shipping. If sellers charge a little too much for their shipping, most of us just adjust our bids accordingly. But I also feel sellers who charge slightly more than average for shipping, need to package their items better. I'm getting charged more so I expect better service too. This seems like a reasonable expectation as far as I'm concerned.
Most buyers expect graded cards to be well protected too.
Personally, my pet peeve are with sellers that just throw the graded card in a bubble mailer without other protection. I've had 4 cards destroyed in the mail by this lazy type of packaging. One card was a beautiful centered PSA 8 Bob Lilly rookie ($490), for which the PSA holder got shattered and the card warped in shipping by an idiot sellers poor packaging job.
Another card destroyed was a '57 Clemente PSA 8 (a $500 card), that was put into a padded mailer loose, only to arrive to me with a cracked in half holder and a huge crease down the top third of the card. Two sweet vintage cards forever ruined by jacka$$ shippers who didn't know how to properly package or were just too lazy to even care. Luckily for me, they were both insured.

Stan the Man, before I made my first post their was no mention, that you had paid for priority mail & insurance and received I am guessing 1st class mail with less insurance. so yes you should have been ticked and for a single card, the seller could have been a little closer to the mark on exact shipping & insurance, on larger items(example 264 card PSA graded set) a little guessing of cost of shipping comes into play. I know when I sell a single card that goes for more than 500.00 or more (which your card must have been closer to 1300 to 1600) I use a card board box with plenty of shrink wrap plus peanuts, to make sure the card arrives safely.
I guess I have become annoyed here lately this being like the third thread in the last week or two condemning the dealer/seller. Myself since the new ebay rules I have had more NPB'ers and more demanding buyers telling me when & how I should ship an item to them, I guess in the next week or two, I will be getting my first NEGS from the buyers (5 in the last month) I have opened disputes with for non payment. (No big deal) can't please everyone. I also think alot of buyers don't take into consideration that dealers/store owners have alot of overhead that is never seen by the buyers. (rent/payroll,insurance, ect ect ect). Just my 2 cents worth. just FYI my DSR is (4.9,4.9,4.8,4.8) .
Now everyone say together: "I'm mad as Well and I'm not gonna take it anymore"
Summary - not taking into consideration anyone's personal deals...
1. You should get what you pay for. (e.g. if you pay for priority, you should get priority) - if seller wont work with you neg him 2. If you know what the shipping/HANDLING fee is before bidding, don't complain about the HANDLING part. 3. Figure the shipping/HANDLING into you bid 4. The seller is responsible to ensure the buyer recieves the card in good shape. 5. If you get it in good shape, who cares how it got there. 6. If you don't get it in good shape, try to work it out first with seller, if it gets ugly, file a claim and neg him. 7. USE 1 star for sellers shipping charges who charge over $4/card +insurance. (note step1 if you pay for insurance and dont get it)
$4 is a reasonable shipping/HANDLING amount for a well packaged card, with delivery confirmation. Just because you or someone else charges 2.00, it's probably because you don't sell a LOT, or you are a minority of sellers, good for you, don't push your standards on others.
As I have said I have made alot of money on sellers who do just this. You don't know how many cards I have bought where the seller is known to ship this way or grossly inflate shipping. I paid 12.00 for a graded card last month for shipping alone. The total price was 14.53. I resold the card for 45.00 plus 3.50 shipping 3 days after i got it. His shipping caused the price to be severely depreciated.
The seller that charged 7.99 sent it media mail and then I had to pay ANOTHER 4.58 when it was delivered told me that was not his problem...
My initial opinion was the same as diamondman's because of stanman's first post about the subject, which is the fourth post in this thread. Based on the information he initially provided the seller did nothing wrong, and it made stanman look like he didn't have a clue that businesses and people are entitled to be paid for the handling they provide. Only after a page or two of people railing on him did he clarify that what he paid for was priority mail and the seller only shipped first class. Personally I wouldn't be wasting my time as long as I got the card in a timely-priority-like manner, but if the money or principle is that important to stanman then he does have a legitimate gripe with the seller for charging for a level of mail service he did not provide.
My thoughts exactly...i don't know why people complain, especially when they see the s/HANDLING costs posted in the auction. I do agree though that if a service is offered and paid for, you should get it....but something very easy to deal with.

Yup.
BUT, in this case, the seller used a plain-white envelope and a 42-cent stamp.

I should not have to pay anything on top of what I already have paid. If I hadn't had to pay the extra to get the package I would not say anything.
I think that falls into the did not arrive as expected category..
