Shame since my computer screen and PCGS calendar aren't far apart and they really ruined the NCS one. Not that I wouldn't take it.....

I would guess around $25-30k, just one of those coins everyone wants but few can afford.

Despite its problems I like the coin, always have. Ever since I was a wee lad reading the redbook and looking at the photos. Reading about the history about the coin.

Yes, between this and the Gobrecht dollar they are both coins that I dream of owning. And since I will only be able to afford them damaged, I gravitated to this one immediately.

But still at 30K I cannot afford it. But I still have my eye out for a nice damaged Gobrecht - I am thinking I might be able to get one of those for under 5K.

edited to say that the Gobrecht would probably have to be holed, whizzed, damaged, graphiti, etc. in order for me to afford it.

IMHO if you can afford a Problem coin at that level, keep saving your pennies for a NON Problem example... as this is going to be a Problem to get out of once it comes time to re-sell!

Even at $9200 with juice, this to me is all washed up! image

I would normally agree, but, I would have a hard enough time to justify a 5-6K problem coin, let alone a 20K non-problem coin.

So I am afraid that it will have to be a problem Gobrecht for me.

Does anyone remember the story of the Gobrecht dollar a David Lawrence customer found in the bottom of a porcelain vase? Supposedly one side looked AU and the other was scratched to heck.

Truly rare coins are so cool I'd buy one in impaired condition as long as I could afford it.

Damaged Stellas appear on the market pretty regularly. I've had a few and they always sold quickly. I don't see any reason to think they'll be any more difficult to sell in future years.

This lowball US Type registry set has an 1836 Gobrecht w/o stars in Proof-6 (not 60... s-i-x 6) condition. Sadly, it is one of the few coins not pictured.
