How do I crack a slab?

I was looking to resubmit some cards I had graded a few years back. What is the best way to crack open a slab so you don't damage the card?

Cut off on corner with pliers / cutters. Insert flathead, slide around the seal while prying up.

  • Lowest-impact method is to use a simple triangular file (available for a couple of $$ at your local hardware store to file off the corner, and then pry the slab open with a screwdriver. PSA slabs come apart fairly easily. Takes about five minutes per slab.

  • A lot of the PSA slabs can be broken up running a thumbnail up a side to break the seal a little and then pulling them apart. These were really easy to break before WIWAG, but they are now a little tighter sealed. I always try the thumbnail first, then snip the corner off if I have to.

Forgive my ignorance, but what happened with Wiwag?? I remember buying something from that seller a while back.

For me this is the best, easiest way to do it. Only takes a minute or two as well.

I use a bolt cutter. One closure at the top of the slab opens it like a can. I have never had a damaged card
