Worried that sale was too good ???

Have you ever sold anything on Ebay that ended much higher than you anticipated and you were actually concerned???

I sold a set the other day that usually goes for $75 - $125 in vg+ - ex condition. However, this set sold for $370 and payment was made immediately via paypal from a buyer with over 900 and 100%.

Obviously, I'm not complaining, I had good scans of the key cards, accurately described the condition and guaranteed authenticy and being unaltered.

I actually upgraded many of the cards from the set I was going to sell, to give a consistent ex - ex/mt set throughout.

Should I just be grateful or keep my fingers crossed until positive feedback is placed?

  • It is a sad day when sellers have a great sale, and then they have to sit back and worry whether or not there will be any problems in the end.
The new rules and many chargebacks have ruined it for alot of sellers.
Good luck, and congrats on the sale. Here's hoping everything goes smoothly, and you get to spend that extra cash on something you want.

It averages out with the cards that sell for a lot less than you thought they would. Take it and be happy.
  • Appreciate the good words.

That's exactly why I try to avoid selling on eBay anymore and why I no longer take PayPal.

Was it the famous "I have to have it and you're not getting it no matter what" bidding war between two stubborn bidders with deep pockets?

Or perhaps did one or more bidders happen to place a super high proxy bid?

    Link? What was the item?
  • I don't have access to do a link right now, but the set was a 1938 Churchman's "Boxing Personalities" that ended around 7:00 pm on 7/3

With my best sell ever, the buyer took a week to pay. Yes, I was concerned, but did notice that the buyer had a habit of buying rare PSA 10's for similar ridiculous money.

  • Agree with Lee....don't worry and be happy. I bought an unopened 1979 Topps cello box about a year ago which turned out to have both a pack with the Ozzie Smith RC showing on the back and another one with it showing on the front. I sold the one with Ozzie on the back for just over $200 (still have the one with Ozzie on the front), which wasn't much less than I paid for the whole box. I had only expected the pack to go for around $50-100, so was pleasantly suprised.

It does not happen to me as much as it used to, but I do remember a sale for $300 that I expected to end at $100. I fully expected the buyer to back out (which I would have allowed). But instead, he paid promptly. I did feel a bit guilty, and gave him a $100 back (not at his request). Still made far more than I expected. I think it was a case of 2 snipers who wanted the item, and both imputted a number that would win them the item for sure, not thinking they would have to go that high. When I checked the bids the 2 of them were about $200 higher than anyone else, and both their bids came in the last seconds of the auctions.

A word to the wise. Don't place your snipes above what you actually want to pay, or you may regret it.
