The guy selling the OPC box may be turn out to be honest (a big may), but he is violating paypal rules by refusing Paypal while being forced to include it as a payment option.

I wonder where "Low Country" is? If it's NC, I'd be very skeptical of the 71 Topps box as a number of "pack factories" operate out of that neck of the woods.

Actually, that is untrue, as ebay does allow you to add pics after bids have been placed. Either he is a total neophyte or he boosted some scans of some pretty nice boxes.

That would certainly seem to indicate that he is a scammer, as he has answered (and posted) other questions to seller in his listings. No wonder the packs aren't visible. If anyone here is thinking of bidding, save your money!!

Not hard to recognize that Yaz image as being the same one from his '70 card. I don't remember ever seeing that Bench photo before. It would have made a nice regular issue card.

Don't buy these boxes from baseballvintagecards. This is the same guy from South Carolina that tried to f--- me. He used to use the userid "Topps11". He uses "sellonesellall" to buy the "goods". I've followed his purchases over the last 6 months or so, and guess what? He's bought 69 topps football wrappers (also in his listings), 69 topps football singles, 72 topps football wrappers and 73 topps baseball wrappers and singles...I bought something from him about a year ago, and was lucky to squeeze about 80% of my money out of him.

If asking for pics of those or any other unopened packs, the most important ones are pics of the top and bottom sides (to check the corners to make sure they look neatly wrapped like a present; if the "fold" looks crooked or "popped" or otherwise funny looking, red flag) as well as the back side (to make sure the original factory seal is "even").

Personally I'd be content with the full set in NRMT condition with PSA 7 keys but that's just me. I will say though, I wouldn't mind having a complete set of the uncut sheets!

And that, in a nutshell, epitomizes everything that's wrong with Ebay.

It's just way too easy for people who are up to no good to register multiple ID's or move from one ID to another.

In addition to this guy, there's someone working out of northern NJ who has been faking 60's cellos....they've gone though about ten ID's in the last year....

Those guys have been doing it for years and are probably quite good at it, everything from packs, full boxes, racks, wax trays and fun bags from what I've heard so I wouldn't count on anyone except the most experienced pack collectors being able to tell whether their stuff is any good and no one could do it from a pic or scan I'm sure. Before ebay recently stopped allowing one to view active bidding by user name i used to use their buying account, sellonesellall to find good hockey wrappers and display boxes for me when i was collecting them a few years back. They were most helpful in that regard since they don't bid too high lol.

Good point Beezer, the glut of 71 rack packs recently on the bay comes to mind....

The insidious part of these scams is that for vintage like these auctions, even the empty boxes, wrappers, etc. are so rare that you want to believe the items are legit when they come up for sale.

Hate to see the expression on the face of the collector who actually busts any of this crap in search of high grade cards.

As a result of the epidemic of "bad" paks on ebay over the past year I have been forced to take a cynical yet cautious approach to buying unopened raw material on ebay. When viewing any raw pak I begin with the assumption that the item for auction (is) resealed and/or "homemade". Then I look for evidence to prove my assumption wrong. In this case it is imperative to get a close look at the back of a few paks to see how tight the corner folds are. The seller made the effort to add two additional frontal pictures but neglected to spend a "whopping" .15 cents to extend me the courtesy of viewing a picture of what is most important--the reverses. Secondly Steve Hart is paying $7000 for legitimate '71 wax boxes so why would this seller have an opening bid of only $4200 and risk losing $2800 plus ebay and paypal fees. If it was my box and I knew it was legit I would just sell it to Steve and not risk such a loss. Two big red flags with this auction so it failed to prove wrong my initial assumption that the paks are bad!!!!!

You know another coincidence that I just realized: "sellonesellall" bought a 1981 topps football wax case from BBCEXCHANGE bout a year ago and I noticed that "topps11" sold a wax box "from a case" a few months ago when he was selling questionable 1971 and 1975 topps rack packs. Today "baseballvintagecards" is also selling a 1981 topps wax box "from a case". There are way too many coincidences for me...

I emailed the guy about the 71 Topps box to see where he is and if I could see the box since I'm also in South Carolina. He is in Charleston SC and said he had no problem with me seeing the box.

I think there's a smoking gun with regard to baseballvintagecards. He's got a 1972 Topps Football Wax box and a 1973 Topps Baseball Wax box up for sale on EBAY. Both of these have a GAI graded pack that were supposed to be part of the box that he bought. If you have access to VCP, search on the sold unopened packs and there you'll find these two packs bought by guess who.....Sellonesellall. I can't believe someone is that crappy. I think that if anyone bids and wins his items, I'm going to email them right after the auction to let them know....

VCP does not track unopened material... at least not that I can find on the site.

Snorto, VCP does have prices for sold unopened packs. Go to "site map" at the bottom of any page and then choose, say, "baseball card checklist". Then go to "unopened packs (19XX's).
