Paypal Question........

Let's say I am purchasing something for 500 dollars and only have 400 dollars in my bank account that is attached to my paypal account. I do have a credit card as a backup funding source. Will it first take all 400 dollars of my bank account dropping the balance to zero and then pull the other 100 from my credit card? Is there anyway to just have it charge my credit card the full amount?

Before finalizing payment on paypal, you can select an option for a different payment source. Click on it and you can change payment source to your credit card for the full amount.

  • I also think that if your bank account doesn't have the full amount it will default to your back up credit card but it is best to go ahead and select the credit card instead of risking fee's in case in deduct's the full amount from your bank account.

If there are funds in the paypal account it will take it from there first, no choice. After that you have the choice of checking (default) or credit card. My understanding is if you don't choose and there is not enough in the checking it will empty your checking and then take the remaining from your credit card.

It will over draw your bank account same as bouncing a check. You must change the payment to a credit card befor sending it in.
