1849 California token (?)

Please see attached pictures.

Are any of you familiar with this type of coin?

I can't find it in any common catalog. I paid $30 for it because it looks cool, but I don't know anything about it.

It looks as it is made in brass, and the diameter is 22 mm.

    This is a spiel-marke, a game counter. Much like a modern day poker chip.
    They're quite interesting and there are quite a few varieties. It would have been originally gilt, gold plated.
