Starting Bid: $15,000.00

1922 Grant. With Star. MS-67 (NGC).

This delicate golden specimen is framed by deep iridescent mauve toning at the obverse periphery. Boldly struck, icy-smooth underlying fields and design features are almost entirely free of even the most trivial of microscopic contact marks. Examples of this "key" silver commemorative issue at the lofty grade level offered here are very rare indeed (perhaps 10 or so such specimens are extant), as even survivors at the MS-65 grade are quite challenging to acquire.

The coin was in a EBay Store in 2006 or 2007 for $17.5 or $19.5K as I recall image

I had Frank Van Valen, a cataloger at Stack's, as my instructor (along with David Lange) for "Collecting US Type Coins" during ANA Summer Seminar last week. He had some humorous commentaries about cataloging, like the use of certain words and phrases to either build up or knock down an auction item. Those familiar with his writings were sure to get the message.

Yep I'm sure you don't forget a MS67* Grant with Star! image

I believe seller Pahrump Coins had it posted, as I sent a link to a friend of mine who has one of the top 144pc sets.

Goldbully, is there a rule you can't buy a coin off EBay if your gonna auction off your collection and try to toss prestige and pedigree all over the place imageimage

Very nice example but way to rich for my blood. I have to settle for this one, MS63 (crack out from ANACS 63): image

Grant liked his seegars. And I can almost see him smoking one.

    Grant liked his seegars.

My great, great, grandfathers brother was given a cigar from Grant after the civil war. Its on display in Johnson County, IN.

Probably just the image, but does it have the appearance of taking a dip?image

The toning appears unremarkable to me. Golden with iridescent mauve highlights falls into that category.
