Thank you for the help...Grade Solved...

Please help me grade this Morgan with no regards to its date.

Please let me know if this is an:

AU-55 Cleaned
AU-58 Cleaned
MS-60 Cleaned

I am pretty sure it is one of these 3 grades but let me know if your opinion is it being higher/lower. Thanks for your input.

Cleaned to appear UNC. Middle grade AU details.
Positive BST transactions with: too many names to list! 36 at last count.
  • It looks cleaned. I'd say AU if I had to assign it a grade.
  • Do you think PCGS would grade it?

What do you think ANACS would give it....

I thought that this would grade MS because of all of the breast detail on the eagle?

Anacs MIGHT grade it...I doubt PCGS would because of the surfaces and the huge price jump from AU to UNC. I'd try Anacs first if I were you.

It would body bag at PCGS for sure. Not so sure about ANACS, they might assign a net grade.

The person who wrote on the 2X2 seems to think it is MS image

How many obverse dies were used for that date/mm? The date dosent seem to line up with the denticles on the one I looked at.

  • Would you say that calling that coin an MS-60 cleaned is not correct?

When in hand it does look better...do you think it is just the picture or is it definitely cleaned?

For the long answer go here

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.

Sorry, she is definately cleaned; note the halow effect around the devices and hair-lines on the obv. ANACS will probably net grade it AU(cleaned), but PCGS would "bag" it.

Looks dipped to me. I see a few hairlines in the pic but nothing drastic.

    That Morgan is obviously cleaned.......100%

Grade, that is a bit more difficult.
If it was uncirculated, the coin would NOT be an MS60. Too nice.
So the question would be, is it an AU55/58 or an MS 64/65?

Maybe ANACS would net grade th coin an MS Details - AU55 Net.
Or they would grade the coin AU Details - XF45 Net (they usually drop the coin 1 grade for being cleaned)

My guess is that the coin is AU58 Cleaned.
The reverse has what look like dings from circulation contact.

Because the coin has been cleaned, contact wear is hard to tell....no luster breaks to check for wear.

    BB at PCGS/NGC.
Send it to ANACS for a grading tool.

    Cleaned AU 53/55

Looks like a "Choice/Gem BU" from ebay seller "hsturn". Return it if you can.

AU58 and no one can tell from those pics as to whether it has been cleaned.

    I brake for ear bars.
  • Thank you all for your opinions...I will probably not send this coin for grading...my opinion of this coin through your input is AU-55 cleaned to AU-58 cleaned...I definitely do not think it is lower than a 55 or higher than a 60.
