Arizonapex Show Report, Tempe AZ

Just back from 2 days at Arizonapex, a Bick Internnational show.

Opening day Friday showed dealer to dealer traffic as med/warm, I saw lots of checks being written. The retirees/snowbirds were out and looking but I did not see much buying. I arrived 20 minutes after it opened and half the show had no lights, so there were quite a few dealers hot under the collar to say the least. It was fixed within an hour and back to normal.

Saturday was brisk with collectors. It was very nice to see normal folks sitting at the tables going thru the binders and boxes with their lists open, checking off as they bought. The collector showing was strong in my opinion. It was quite entertaining to see the collectors try to buy primo PCGS coins while asking the dealer " whats bid, thats what I'll pay", one fellow finally parted with $125 for a primo PCGS 1910-S Lincoln I was keen on. I took the 09-S PCGS AU-55 instead.

Those with the typical overgraded, cleaned, junkslab material were bored and lonely as they watched the tables with fresh material and better date/grade coins move steadily. Many of the dealers were the AZ Scottsdale circut dealers, and to me, it was same old-same old. I was tired of looking at the same coins 6 shows in a row, you'd think they would get a clue, folks are NOT buying junk problems.

I picked up a few 1914-D's, an SVDB and some better grade semi's for inventory and want lists. It was difficult to spend money at times, but when I found a reasonable dealer, I spent money as fast as I could. Bought 1 6000 count bag of pre-40 wheats for $300 Friday, and another 5000 ct pre-40 bag today for $250, a steal in anyones book. I grabbed a 19-S Walker in AG from a $1 bargain bin at Excelsior's table, and a few world coins with animals on them for my wife.

There were quite a few stamp collectors working Bicks table, but the 1 big currency dealer appeared slow.

My take on the show was, it was great to see the collectors filling those holes, that was the best show ( other than the March ANA ) I have seen in AZ in over a year.

EDIT for spelling/typo

Nice report. Sounds like you picked up some nice stuff. Considering melt, your purchase of a walker for $1 was a steal!
Advanced collector of BREWERIANA. Early beer advertising (beer cans, tap knobs, foam scrapers, trays, tin signs, lithos, paper, etc)....My first love...U.S. COINS!

Glad to hear it was a decent show. One question...What were snowbirds still doing there? Gas prices so high they could not afford to fly/drive home this year?

Yeah, bad habit. When I see the blue hair, I think snowbird. Lets call them retirees.
