New John Quincy Adams variety / error?

ajbaumanajbauman Posts: 1,174 ✭✭✭
I took advantage of the direct ship program for $500 worth of the JQA dollars from the mint (by the way all the ones that I received were 2008 P, for those of you who were wanting mixed mintages). While going though them for errors, I think I found a variety.

Please take a look at the pics and let me know what you see that might look off from the normal JQA dollars. I know my pics aren't the best, but the issue(s) are still identifiable. I have found several of these coins with the same diagonostics on the obverse and reverse. If you still can't see any problems... scroll to the bottom for a "hint".

I think I would like to call this variety "molie molie" image

Yeah...that's pretty much it. The thing is I've found about 20 - 25 of these so far out of the 13 rolls that I've searched so far and they all have three things in common:

    Obverse:

The most obvious diaganostic seems to be the two zits/moles on the chin.

But on each one of these there are also markings on the chin and some look like letters, some cuds.

    And on the reverse:

There seems to be a raised area above the "R" in Liberty.

Anybody know if this has been "discovered" before?

I've never even submitted anything to a grading company before, let alone a new error / variety? Should this be a variety, or is this just errors from a specific set of dies?

    Thanks all of your opinions!

I think die chips are quite common.

I know it could happen to occasionally have strike-thrus & die chips... but I've found several with them in the same places. Does that mean that I just got a run of them from the same dies before they replaced the dies?

Nearly every JQA I ran across from the Denver house displayed these facial blemishes.

Personally, I think it is something within the coining process combined with the portrait design that is causing these.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!
