IKE Help Please.

This mornings fun time is being spent going through some coins I've had since being a kid. I found that I have 40 or so IKE's all business strikes. Most are circulated or dinged up pretty good although some look MS and a couple look mid MS.
I knew a little so I've already been able to determine that of the 4 '72's that they are all variety 3 (was hoping to find a 2
).
I do have one fairly nice condition '72-D Peg Leg in the bunch but I don't know if they are "special" or not.
What other things should I be looking for on these coins ? Any help or if you could direct me to a resource to study I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.
Richard

Thanks.... I'll check it out and appreciate the info.
A good book to pick-up on Ike's is The Authoritative Reference on Eisenhower Dollars Second Edition by John Wexler, Bill Crawford and Kevin Flynn.

Look for Talon Heads:
Single:
Doubles:
And triples.
Doubles and triples can be close doubles (as illustrated) or far doubles.
Look for DDO's and DDR's. Most are light spreads but occasionally you'll run across some nice medium spreads. Check out the Motto on the Obverse then Of America ion the Reverse.

Out of 38 total Ikes I have and after looking at them individually with a loupe I've only pulled 4 out and put them in 2x2's. They were as follows:
'72-D Peg Leg
'71-D not a variety but just a very nice MS coin
'76-P Type I Rev (also a peg leg, but maybe all these are ???)
'76-D Type I Rev
I didn't find any talon heads and out of the 4 '71's none were the FEV.
I only found very minor doubling on one coins "OF AMERICA"
Thanks for all the info.

These coins are affectionately referred to as "Fading PegLegs" (not to be confused with the 1971-S Proof and BS Fading Peglegs.)
As you can see, the leg on the 'R' really recedes into the field.
IMO, any IKE that qualifies for 2x2 status, is an IKE worth saving as it's only a question of time before collectors start looking at IKEs with the same enthusiasm as they do their VAMs! The series has many DDO's, DDR's, Die Cracks, Die State Varieties and actual die varieties which are merely waiting to be discovered! The FEV and recent Prototype finds are testament to that.
