How do you explain the difference between these two Flying Eagle cent prices?

Both 1858 Small letters the MS-66 went for a lot less than the MS-65

  • the MS66 piece is in an old NGC holder and has "turned" in the holder. In simple terms... it's become uglier since it was encapsulated, and would probably not grade as high now. The carbon spot drags it down as well. The MS65 coin appears to be a lovely, full-blown Gem.

Sorry, didn't have my glasses on. Though the coins were MS65 and 64.

Are you saying that the MS-66 has degraded to an MS-64?

Someone bought the coin, not the plastic.

I can totally understand that, especially if it is a collector looking to keep it for his own collection. But this coin was sold as a floor bid, which to me means there was a better than 50/50 chance that it was a dealer. It might be tough to resell at a profit unless he specifically bought it for a customer. That was a (Top pop. PCGS) 66 price he paid for it.
