Need to see the reverse and what the diameter is before I can say for sure.
  • I was able to get a pic of both coin sides.

The diameter is a tad smaller than the So called dollar I do own. Its the 1926 Sesquecentennial.

Depends on how big your "tad" is. If the medal is 33mm or larger, then it qualifies as a SCD. If it's smaller, then it's more of a so-called half dollar.
  • Thanks, I will have it measured when its in hand.
  • Just measured it, its 33mm. So, I guess this is a so called dollar.......

I was also able to see the letters W&H Co. on the reverse of the coin. Does anyone know if this was a company that made medals?

The initials W & H likely represent Whitehead & Hoag, medalmakers located in New York City, late 1800's/early 1900's.

  • I was also thinking of asking some folks at the Raleigh County Archives about this coin. I do not know what the total mintage was. Thanks very kindly for the reply.
