As you know, I collect coins from 1958. Here are two NGC 1958-D Roosies I got this last week. COMMONLY the D mint Roosies will tone with reds and greens. The P mint Roosies tend to get purples and blues. I was very happy to be able to get both coins, but the blue toned D mint is quite the rarity. The red one is MS67 (I've sent it in for designation review hoping to, at a minimum get a star, and maybe even a FT). The blue one is MS67FT, and I may send it in at some point in time to try and get a star.

    Those coins look very familiar.

Didn't I see them last Sunday?

Skyman, as usual very pretty coins!

What you say about the toning of the D vs. P mints is spot on. I have a 1957 mint set where all of the P's are blue/purple and the D's are red/green. You can tell what mint any of the silver coins are simply by looking at the color.

Love the reverse of the top example. I'm a fan of Roosies with the baby-blue and russet "bluebird" toning.

Yes I have officially been in the toned coin long enough to have some of my old coins pop up from time to time. As a toned coin lover....we all recognize our old treasures.....I sold the coin to Criag at least 2 or 3 years ago and I got it from Brian Wagner.....I am part of the coins provanance....aren't I special image
  • The color on the 1st obverse is just spectacular. Very Nice!!!!!

Skyman, just get a 25c, 5c, and 1c to match. That woud be one hell of a nice set. I, and many others for sure, would love to see it.

Would you settle for a 50c?

Say, Skyman - those are very pretty coins! Does anyone know why the "P" Mint coins tone with different colors than the "D"s?

I was wondering this too. If the planchets are the same, why does this happen? Coincidence? What do the chemistry experts have to say?

Best guess is different planchet preperation, e.g. wash etc. Also, don't forget that while the coins were being prepared they existed in two very different climates with Philly being quite humid and Denver being quite dry.

Do either of these have to do with the end of the world in your estimation? Your title begs the question.
