IKE GSA certification question - error question?

Hello all!

I have a brown pack ike that I thought about sending to NGC for grading. But it has a minor clip/error. Will NGC grade this or will it be BB for the clip?

NGC will not BB a coin for an error...they will describe it as such and grade it accordingly.

Likewise, PCGS will not BB a coin for an error...although PCGS does not certify Ikes in their original brown/blue packaging.

I would really, really, really like to see a shot of your coin!

Brown Box Proof IKE mint error's are a completely different animal than regular IKE error's with some commanding substantial premium's!

Thanks! The "clip" is very minor and IMO would command no premium.

However, it appears as if this may be a nice DDO coin. Can you zoom in on the motto and or verify if the motto looks like this:

Look at the I in Liberty, does it look like this at the top:

Looking at the motto and it is not doubled. It must have been a lighting thing; I am work so the conditions are not ideal.

so should I even bother sending to NGC? Or just enjoy as is? Is the error going to even be enough to say 'it is an error'.

It is minor, but it is an error, and while it is not unprecedented it is quite unusual in government issued packaging. I know you could get a slight premium over a normal coin from some error collectors... well, at least one, who shall remain nameless. Since it is "as made" I do not think NGC would refuse to grade the coin because of it, in fact they might mention it on the label if you submit it under their error service. (me fail spelling? that's unpossible!)

Your coin looks a lot like this one, which is in the government issue "blue pack" plastic:

The clip is so minor it would bring no added value to your coin so having it graded by NGC would be a decision you would have to make.

BTW, clip errors are calculated by weighing the coin and calculating what percentage of metal (by weight) is missing. Your clip, if it is in fact a clip, would be nearly immeasurable.

    19Lyds,

Thanks! I will just keep it as is. I got it cheap so no sense putting more into it.

    Gratzie!
