1878-P Morgan VAM 4 - cool 8 feather coin.

I like this coin mostly because there is so much going on with it. The 7 in the date is very strongly doubled, along with the stars left of the date. The A1c reverse is similarly full of interesting stuff.
ANACS calls it an MS64; I like it as a strong 63 - but there are counter wheel marks (I think) on the obverse. Tell me if they are something else - that was my best guess.

Not sure what you mean - there is doubling of the berries because of the general doubling of the reverse.
"The A1c reverse is shared by Vams 3, 4, 5, 14-6, 14-7, 14-11, 14-12, 14-14, 14-17, and 14-18. All but VAMs 3 & 4 are major rarities." - borrowed from VAMworld website.
The A1c reverse is easily identified "...by unique tailfeathers next to the eagle's wings. UNITED STATES OF is also strongly doubled. A good marker for the A1c reverse is a blob of metal at the bottom of the F." - more VAMworld text.

Berries apply to the two designs (D1 and D2) of the 1921 morgan dollar where one has an extra berry. And actually you don't count the 17 versus 16 berries there, that would drive most of us nuts. Just look at the alignment of the arrow shaft with the eagle's feet to determine the D1 or D2 reverse type.
On 1878 Morgans you count tailfeathers. This one is an 8 tailfeather reverse.

<< <i>I like it. Nice coin. Looks like a LDS to boot. That little chip above the "dot" between Pluribuis and Unum is the key pick up point for the VAM 4. >>
Thanks! Anyone else?
