1878 VAM-14.X

It was good to see that this coin didn't get bid to the moon. When I first saw it I thought it was a VAM-14.19. It really looks like it has the date crack. But then I saw the clash at the neck and figured I'd see the break above the O of OF on the reverse. Bingo, VAM-14.2. Could easily have seen this bid up if two in-the-know VAM guys saw what I saw at first though. Gnarly wrecked rim too.

Nah, I don't suck this time. If it was a VAM-14.19 and I bid and won it, I really would suck. But as a lowly, damaged 14.2, it was worth just watching to see if someone else thought it was a 14.19.

Mistakes happen.

Years ago, another guy and I went at some 8TF coin with a doubled profile thinking it was 14.16. Ended over $500 for AU and I won. Turned out to be the lighting
on the photo - fooled everyone. That was one P.O'ed seller when I returned the coin
