Items you don't see everyday or that sold for a high or low price

Adopted from another forum... seems like it was a really cool topic that I enjoyed looking through!

Now let's see some with coins!

  • 1954-S 5c PCGS MS66. You don't see these every day and it sold for a very low price. PCGS price is around $200 I recall and it has generally sold for around that much in the past except this one. Buyer (wasn't me) got a huge rip, one of the biggest rips I've ever seen in a fair auction.

And then there's this one: 1977 S $1 NGC PF69*CAM. This has an NGC pop of 3/0, very rare to be sure. I know we get a little crazy with low populations, but think about this logically: it's a NICE CAMEO. NOT as good as an ULTRA CAMEO yet this "super CAMEO" sells for much, much, much more than an ULTRA CAMEO?

    Another Teletrade Auction

Perhaps the star designation carries more NGC registry points than the jump between CAM and UCAM. Just a guess, since I'm not sure how their point system works.
  • I just checked the NGC Registry and this 1977-S PF69*CAM is worth a measly 32 points, the same as the 69CAM counterpart. This is really a mystery.
