1957 proof set

i never realized i wanted one, until my recent give-a-away winner PursuitofLiberty told me that he never had one of his birth year and the 64 proof set just happened to be his....
i had a few proof pennies but never the set, until now!
..his endeavours takes him through my neck of the woods.....dropped off by him was this last week while i was out...
what a great (and small) world, what great people here on this forum!

Birthyear proof sets are great and your 1957 set looks nice. However, now that you have one, you can (if doing so gives you joy and pleasure) hunt around at shows and shops to look for 1957 proof coins that are Cameo in appearance. Cameo proofs from the 1950's and 1960's look so much nicer than brilliant proofs. Comparing brilliant proofs of this era with Cameo proofs reveals a dramatic difference in quality, so much so that many collectors, me included, become hooked on these cameo proofs and spend time and money looking to cherrypick cameo examples of same.
Cameos proof for the year 1957 are hard to find in all five denominations, with the nickel and cent probably being the most difficult to find, followed by the three silver coins.
100Proof1957 spent much time and effort finding slabbed 1957 Cameo proof coins and put together a very high end set with lots of eye appeal. I think he sold it however. Camoenut also has put together a lovely set of 1950-1970 Cameos and you can view them on the Registry.

My digital cameo album 1950-64 Cameos - take a look!
have one or two cameo coins or more in each set and keep them in their original mint packaging and just collect them. Could be
kind of hard these days.
From your post I assume you were born either in the 1965-67 era, or the 1936-42 era, or the 1917-1935 era. If you are arrived on the scene in the mid 60's, then Cameo SMS coins are the ticket. In many ways I like them more than the 50's and 60's Cameo proofs. If you arrived in the two earlier eras, well I guess you will just have to settle for a years set of the best MS cirulation strikes you can find minted in the year of your coming out party.
For me I arrived in 1956, smack dab in the middle of the be boppin 50's. Where is Lucy?

It's still in the family.
I have proof sets, prestige proof sets, and ASE's from my birth year! lol
1987, a mere 30 years after you, hehe.
