<< <i>What a collection. You should have no problem selling most of the stuff here on the psa boards. It would benefit both buyer and seller.
By the way....sounds like some of you guys have serious auto's of golf. May I ask a question. How would I go about getting a magazine I have autod by jack nicklas? I would like a few extra things on it besides hs name.
Does he have a company that does it? About what would it cost?
any input would be appreciated. jay >>
Hi Jay,
we have a 16x20 Sam Snead auto that was professionally framed for us a while back.
thought we'd share it along with a few other photos etc.
Hey ! If you have a 61 or 62 Mantle signed could you post a scan of it ? I have been looking for one for a while as well as a Maris from those years. Thanks !, Outstanding stuff !

Hi,
Sorry we don't have any from those years of either player.
When you decide on prices...I would like to buy some of the nice things you have. I have a decent collection (not like your museum) of hof greats. Its a way of following sports history and honoring the all time greats. I have probably 75-100 8x10's and many nolan ryan items. 45 Baseballs, and 5 hof qb footballs, and a nice norman rockwell baseball litho, and many ron lewis items inc 500 hr hitters. A favorite is a 1939 life with Joe D on the cover signed with #5 on it also.
BTW sam snead lived at the end of the road my grandmother lived on ( I am going back quite a few years). Many famous people have lived in and around the area. I don't think she had any idea of just how popular snead was. It probably was a 2nd house for him.

I missed the thread about losing your wife. My sympathy goes to you. I agree with drj. Keep some items...it is a momento of your sons and you. Years from now you will look at them and think of the relationship you have with your family.

Hi Jay,
Thanks for the kind words.
Most of our friends tell us the same thing .... keep the items that have the most sentimental value.
I'm not sure if I can explain this correctly, but the only sentimental value we share in our collection are the memories, not the physical items.
In other words, we don't need a signed Ken Griffey Jr bat to remember the day that Junior signed it for us. We will always remember that day, whether we have the bat or not.
We have so much stuff that we're actually getting bored with it all; I guess sometimes we just lose interest in things that others think are amazing; probably because we see it everyday and take it for granted.
We just want to keep our collection of PSA Mantle cards because the Mick has a special place in our hearts.
Of all the sports celebrities that we've met over the years, Mickey Mantle was the one that we hold dearest in our memories.
We were lucky enough to eat lunch with him at an Upper Deck Heroes of Baseball function back in 1991.
I remember my oldest son asked Mantle what it was like to be Mickey Mantle, to go places and be recognized by everyone; the Mick kinda half-snickered/half-laughed and said that nowadays, which was the early 90s at the time, nobody hardly ever recognizes him because most people only remember what the younger Mickey Mantle looked like, the one pictured on his baseball cards.
That was the only time that we ever met Mickey Mantle.... my wife didn't make the trip because she wasn't feeling well; 3 days after we returned home from our trip, my wife was rushed to the hospital and died two days later.
I remember when my father was diagnosed with cancer; he told me not to hold on to things just because of him!
I feel the same way.... I just don't want my sons to have to deal with all of this when I'm gone.... I think my father was trying to tell me that the longer you hold on to things, the harder it is to let go.
Hope this explanation neither bored or depressed you too much.
You mentioned in another post that you would be interested in some of our items.
Let us know which sport, the player, and what type of memorabilia and we'll see what we have.
I've got absolutely nothing of value to add to the discussion; I did want to express my astonishment of your marvelous collection. I'm sorry to read that you're parting with it, but I'm sure you've thoroughly thought it through. Good luck with that. Thanks for sharing all the pictures!

Hi Jon,
we have no idea on current market prices/values on much of our collection.
we've contacted a few major auction houses, as suggested by many members of this board, to help us decide if that's the way to go or not. hopefully, they'll give us some insight about expected prices too.
Wow! We've received over 40 PMs in the past 3 days with requests for photos of different items.
Here's a few more ... we promise to get more posted, but please be patient
This glove was given to my father by Waite Hoyt.
My sons and I took it to Cooperstown in 1995 and showed it to the Hall of Fame Librarian; he told us he wasn't quite sure whether it was an adult or youth glove, since the players back then were a lot smaller than todays. He was sure that it was authentic and that it was pre-1930.

What a beautiful collection! I admire how you've got it displayed! That's the dream I have of displaying my treasures one day!
Thank you for taking the time to share the pictures!

Hi Mike,
thanks for the kind words.
if you only knew how many times our collection has been arranged and rearranged over the past 5 years or so.
When my wife passed away, my sons and I were able to use a few rooms that we normally wouldn't have, if you catch my drift.
Of course, I'd trade everything we have to get her back
anyway, good luck with your dream .... and above all .... make it happen; life is short!
