<< <i>How many sellers had to slit their own throats with free shipping to get there? >>

Most sellers who tried free shipping saw their shipping cost DSR drop, and went back to charging for shipping. The Power Screwer board is loaded with posts about it.

I went to free shipping this month and it's done nothing for my shipping DSR AND my sales have dropped precipitously to boot!
Guess I'll go back to the old way.

What a crock, I guess I got the 15% thing, but now they are apparently threatening me.....

You earned a 15% PowerSeller discount
A 15% discount off your Final Value Fees is applied to the invoice dated below.

    Applied to invoice: 06/15/08
You are at risk of losing your 15% discount .........I'm still looking for the opt out button, besides the feet first suggestion...Oh ya, I think I've only offered free shipping on maybe 2 items ever.

That's not a threat, it's a heads up that your rounded up number has dropped close to the point it will be rounded down. Would you rather just suddenly be surprised, or get a little advance warning?

<< <i>My 30 day has dropped to 4.64 and 4.65 for shipping time and charges.

I ship next day and charge 2.75 and now I am lower than the e-bay average? I get 0% discount. I'm not liking this at all. image

Oh and all the feedback says great item fast shipping etc... image >>

i am getting the same thing. i have been doing free shipping or lower than actual cost and my feedbacks rave on fast shipping(i ship same/next day), and my DSR`s are dropping. shipping just hit 4.7... it does not seem to matter if i ship free or charge a minimal amount.

Do you ship registered? Unfortunately, I've had buyers blame the slowness of registered mail on me. --Jerry

As I posted before, I think many sellers don't like free shipping because they know shipping isn't free so it comes across as a hidden charge. they find it more honest to charge excact cost. I enter the weight and let ebay calculate the shipping for me now so they get an exact quote of what it will cost me with paypal shipping and my DSRs went up. Registered mail being slow hurts my DSRs. Jerry

Just charge the full shipping cost. You'll still come out ahead.

Don't get caught up in this DSR thing. I ingore mine, who cares.

    ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

    Yup.

The most recent "offer" is nonsense. A safe way to get some PR,
without having to pay out A DIME.

I use "FREE" shipping, and my stars are the same as folks who
    charge actual-cost+.

As long as EBAY tells buyers that 4-stars is excellent, the company
will be paying few FVF rebates.

I give 3's across the board on items i buy. SO add me to your blocked list.image I am a little miffed at ebay anyway. I can not figure out how to be a powerseller. It shows me all the screens but says i opted out. I did not opt out to my knowledge. It showed where i could be a silver silver somewhere. Ebay is turning into an approval service on coins. I have never had many returns but have had more in the last few weeks than i had in 7 or so years. I may start doing it myself. I have already had a few try to get more than what they won through threats. Kind of stupid to type it on the ebay system.

Your a little miffed at Ebay, so you give the SELLERS the 3 stars? Hmmmmm, kind of a curious way of showing it, by helping Ebay earn higher FVF fees than you would by giving out better stars !!!

"...Ebay is turning into an approval service on coins...."

    ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Mandatory returns on TPG items are close at hand.
    Before XMAS 2008.

Starting in July, sellers without a "stated" return policy
will be penalized in Best-Match search results.

I am not real sure how to make an approval service
    profitable on EBAY.

<< <i>Hitting a 4.9 in the shipping DSR will be impossible!

Thanks eBay! You've done it to us again! >>

Done what? Added another opportunity for a bonus? Well, damn them!

    Russ, NCNE >>

Yeah! Damn Them as it's an opportunity that few will meet or be elligible for. All it is, is the creation of a stock selling campaign!

I see that on one of your auctions, you are poised to take a huge loss on your shipping & handling should this one pass the $200 mark. Postal Insurance alone would be $4.60 which leaves .35 cents for everything else.

But then, this is probably a consignment so it doesn't really affect you at all except for collecting the DSR's.

    My dashboard shows the following:

    Item as Described - eBay 30day average = 4.76
    Communication - eBay 30day average = 4.71
    Shipping Time - eBay 30day average = 4.65
Shipping and Handling Charges - eBay 30day average = 4.63

which shows that all DSR's, on average, are well below 4.9 so the 20% discount is a safe offering for eBay as few will be able to collect on it.

I'm not picking on you Russ it's just that your account was easy enough to look up since you're one of my favorite seller's but the reality is that few will meet that 4.9 target so the "opportunity" will be difficult to achieve unless one is willing to take a loss on shipping and buyers even bother to address the DSR's. Of my 390 transactions only 158 have bothered with the DSR's

Yeah, it looks like I under-estimated the selling price on that one. Maybe. It's currently at what I expected it to bring, so if it stays there I'm fine.

Huh? If an item sells for more than estimate and thus costs more to ship, I eat it out of my own pocket.

My point is simply that it doesn't make any sense to complain that eBay added an additional opportunity for fee discounts. It has zero impact on most of us, and a handful will achieve it. How is this a bad thing?

Considering that I've never gotten ANY discount on fees, I guess I should be happy with the 15% I'll get and be happy... I'm just so darned close to the 20%!

    My current 30-day average:

Sad thing is, I have absolutely no clue what I could possibly do to make them better... I think others' advice here is on point: just ignore the stars as long as you're not in danger of being penalized in search results or PayPal holdback. Ultimately you'll have less stress.

I think it's largely out of a seller's control, so that sounds like very good advice.

I try to be as honest as I can in my descriptions, like I'm selling to a family member, and often eat some of my shipping cost. My DSR is 4.8 description, and 4.7 for shipping. My other two are 5.0. 4.9 accross the board is next to impossible.

It's bad in that it hold's the same merit as the "cheaper Listing Fee's, therefore we are saving you money (while we raise the Final Value Fee's) routine! To stock holders, this looks good but in reality it will have little effect on how many folks continue to use eBay.

If I thought I had an ice cubes chance in hell of making a 5.0 across the board I'd be whooping it up but the reality is that it's just never going to happen. Not in the real world and my comments are aimed at that little factoid.

It's true that 4.9 isn't doable for most, but 4.8 and 15% certainly is. So, while I'm hitting the 15% I'll cheer for those who hit the 20%.

So will I and truth be told, ever since I started charging close to actual shipping charges, my 4.82 S&H DSR has dropped to 4.80! It's a little frustrating when you know there is nothing you can do about it.

And then when eBay comes around and say's "All you gotta do is get 5's across the board, you wanna strangle somebody!
Not that we haven't wanted to strangle him anyway! image
