How about a contest? Sure..why not...a Bowling contest no less!

I did one of these a few months ago for Sh!ts and Giggles... the scores were only practice then, but this time it's for all the glory.

This Saturday in Hartford Ct I will be at Highland Lanes bowling in a DPBA (Duckpin Professional Bowlers Associaiton) Pro-Tour. I rejoined last month after a NINE year abscence.

I was going to do this for the last event, but I didnt want to completely embarass myself. Fortunately I did OK and finished 95th out of 200 entries, nothing to write home about, but I was pleased with my overall experience.

The format of the tournament is such that you bowl 8 games on Saturday, then they take the top 24. If you qualify they do head to head match play then up the ladder finals.

For the sake of the contest the easiest thing to do is to have folks guess what place I'll finish in & what my total pinfall will be. I would expect about 110 to 125 entries for this stop. YOU GET ONE GUESS. Closest without going over wins....total pinfall will be the tiebreaker if folks guess the same place, so make sure you guess a different pinfall total!

Remember, this is duckpins, small ball, short pins and much lower scoring. The cut score SHOULD be close to or just below 1200 (150 per game) depending on scoring conditions etc. I have no idea how the lanes will score as this is the first pro-event ever held there.

so whadya win??
1st Prize: (4) 1991 Score Wax boxes series 1.
2nd Prize: (1) 1990 Fleer Facory Set & 1990 UD Extended set

Bonus prize if the winner is a Cleveland Indians fan image

some hints...... my best 8 game score is 1248 and my worst is 998.
the highest I have ever placed is 4th, the lowest....well, we wont go there.

By total pinfall, I take it that's the 8 game qualifying round?
Or, is it total pinfall, including H2H games?

    LOL DAve.

the hotel im staying at has a business center with free computers image (but they charged $9.95 for folks with laptops to use Wifi!) figured I'd bump this up before I head over to the lanes.
I practiced there yesterday and conditions are tough; dry lanes, no oil, old pins, wood lanes and ball curves like a mofo! should be fun for a lot of the southern bowlers who are used to oil and faster scoring houses.

cheers from "delightful" Hartford (when did CT become such a ghetto??)

That is not him nor the correct list, unless Leo did not enter as there are no Leo's on the list.

There was only one Lou on the list that I could find. It says 2008 Highland Bowl results.

    Hey guys,
results havent posted yet; they probably wont update till Tuesday i hear. my total pins were 980, which is well below my average. I dont know what place i finished as I left town before the last shift bowled. I'm guessing i will be anywhere from 75th to 90th place. Conditions were pretty tough and it was hot as hell at the lanes (80 degrees+ with NO a.c.) made the approaches sticky as hell. I missed too many spare breaks, but even if i picked up every single one I still would have missed the cut by about 50 pins lol.

I did meet a whole group of canucks who ventured down from the great white north...they bowl a 5 pin game and another group bowls rubber band duckpin (giant rubber bands around the pins) some were from Montreal and the others from Ontario. They were all super nice and they invited us to go to Canada and try out their tournaments.

When i have the final numbers and such ill post the winners! Thanks for playing.... we'll do this again next month when I go to Maryland!

I should have done this on the results of my PBA Regional Tournament in Smyrna, TN this week. 1672 normally is good enough, but not this week. Have never duck pin bowled so I dont know how the scoring compares

Alright, i'll ask. What's the purpose of the rubber bands?

"Have never duck pin bowled so I dont know how the scoring compares"

If you never bowled duckpins, and stepped onto the lanes; if you went 100, folks would be impressed image a lot less strikes, and you get 3 balls instead of two. It's crucial to make your spares and pick your wood on the 3rd ball. a "good" average is 130. the absolute best top about at 150 (i think two or three men averaged that high this year)

There has never been a 300 game thrown, the highest is 279.
Throwing a 200 game and a 500 set (3 games) are a pretty big deal.
