That's still a middle finger to the vast majority of sellers and pretty much all who don't sell in high volume.

I understand it's a business and all, but just the same I find it sad that the small-time non-professional seller who had a few things in the attic to exchange for a few bucks of extra spending money -- the ones that built eBay in its early years -- have effectively been priced out of it.

Yeah, it's a pretty safe carrot for eBay to offer. image

They are also adding a new Power Screwer tier - Diamond, $500K a month. That one is unconfirmed, though.

There isn't a high volume seller on eBay hitting 4.9 across the board. In fact, very, very few of them are hitting the 4.8.

The only seller here that I know of that maintains a 4.9 or above, across the board, is Bill Zach and his amazing hobo carvings

While not quite high volume, I maintain 4.8+ barely EDIT, WOW Russ, your is pretty darn good too !!!!

    100% absolutely correct. UNOBTAINABLE!!
    I have 6,000+ sales with a 100% positive feedback and I have around a 4.8 rating.

Unless you ship for free and deliver the next day with a unexpected $5 attached to each item you won't get 4.9.
Certainly not if you sell any raw coins or other items that could in any possible way be subject to buyers whims as to condition or worth.

Free shipping won't get a 4.9. Because of the screwy wording a lot of buyers leave a 3 for shipping cost.

Ok so I'm not high volume either but I'm a platinum level powerseller. I did hit 4.9's for a microsecond or two last month, now I'm firmly in the 4.8's.

I think this is just ebay's latest way to try to convince us to give free shipping. They really want to charge us fees on shipping costs. --Jerry

The number of small sellers has dropped sharply. My own sales on eBay since the rate increase went into effect are about $100. I've lost interest in selling.

No, that's reserved for a small-time seller who sells something for less than $25 and accepts PayPal.

Different section. Notice that yours also don't have the green checkmarks? Click on your discount link in the main dashboard and it takes you to the section which shows if you're qualifiying and at what level.

What are they, making this up as they go along? Or did they just have to make sure that only a tiny percentage are achieving 4.8 across the board, and now they feel safe to roll out this nonsense? I'm waiting with bated breath for the next announcement to come down from Ebay mountain.

Actually, 30% of Power Screwers hit that for the 15% discount. That's double eBay's own original estimate.

ebay considers all sellers as a way to make money. shocking.
truly shocking i say. they knew exactly how many sellers would get
the discount before offering it. just spit out a report from their database
and they knew exactly how many would at that moment in time.

new ebay policy: we change the policies to suit our needs whenever we feel like it! nothing is static. you are our b1tch3s.

<< <i>they knew exactly how many sellers would get

No, they didn't. They had an idea of the number that would get it based on the information available when the policy decision was made. That number was 15%. It ended up being double that because there was a dramatic improvement in the 30 day DSR's used to calculate the discount compared to the lifetime DSR's. In other words, the goal of improved customer service from Power Screwers worked.

you really think they cannot notice trends and guess what it would
be in 30 days? 60 days?

i can fully imagine it. do you think the whole company is staffed
by blithering idiots who cannot estimate a trend based on a 15, 30,
45, and 60 day reports before they made this decision?

that is all i am saying.... of course they will act suprised and spin
the information in a way that makes them good... wow! look at
how many more fell into the bonus! amazing. we are so great. you
are so great. keep up the good work. we will be like amazon in just

Pretty much, yes. Try contacting them some time and see if you can find anybody with an IQ higher than a paper clip. If you ask the same question of 10 different eBay drones you'll get 10 different answers and it's likely that all 10 will be wrong.

i think it is due to the average person thinking that it is like judging
their favorite movie on a scale of 1 to 10. People hardly ever use
a 10 to describe 95% of the movies.

just like buying on ebay. even if you sell it cheaply, deliver it cheaply,
and get it there fast... why would it rank a 5 to a normal person who
considers that a 4.. as in above average. it is not like you did anything
exceptional or extraordinary. they get the same service from amazon
    or what not...

i think only those who understand what the stars mean or the easiest
going of people do all 5s.
heck i give all 5s if the darn coin shows up and i did not get ripped.

Most sellers who tried free shipping saw their shipping cost DSR drop, and went back to charging for shipping. The Power Screwer board is loaded with posts about it.
