I hope the buyer gets the coin after all. I wasn't crazy about the look and so I passed but someone got what appears to be a legit 1814 CBH PCGS AU58 for a decent price, IF they get it AT ALL.
<< <i>The same can be said of virtually any coin, and this CBH is, in my opinion, nowhere near "high-end". >>
I meant "high end" in that 58 is higher than a regular AU50. You're right though, that coin isn't great, but someone bought the holder - happens all the time. The point is, I'm not at all surprised by the price.
Positive BST transactions with: too many names to list! 36 at last count.
Greysheet only has a price for AU-50 (385). If someone is dopey enough to get suckered by a dealer to get paid anything around that # for an AU58 PCGS (or NGC) graded 1814 deserves ridicule. I agree that many an NGC graded 58 will cross as a 55 to PCGS, but these are still selling at auction at $1000 + , even $1500 + for nicer AU55's.
True nice AU-58 1814's sell at retail for over $2k, so a dealer should be willing to pay you at the very least $1000 for one. $1250 should not be out of the question.
This one may not be one of the better one's, but the price tag on it is still pretty good.
<< <i>Wow. I can't believe these things have gone so crazy that nearly $1300 is a "decent price"... >>
And, we likely haven't seen the end of the bull run for these busties. IMO, she's got plenty o' legs. Just seems that there is no shortage of collectors that are graduating to the early stuff.
Me thinks the winner of the 1814 could easily turn a tidy profit if flipping was his "bag".

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not...high-end AU CBHs, especially in PCGS holders trade for well over bid. They have for quite awhile.

Put almost anything in a PCGS AU-58 holder -- especially a CBH -- and you have the recipe for moon money.

Don't know if he follows the boards or not. Would love to see his collection.
I hope the transaction goes smoothly for him.
That's not to say that I do not share the skepticism many have regarding buying coins from the far east!
