I finally got a response from the baseball card kid concerning The Pete Rose auto set

His or one of his lackeys resonse - Hi, these Pete Rose sets are FACTORY sealed by TOPPS, they come in a larger white outside box with a piece of factory scotch tape. Very similar to the 1990 Topps Traded FB sets that came sealed in white boxes too, those also had factory scotch tape sealing them. They are a bargain considering Rose gets about 75.00 per autograph in person, plus the 120 cards in the set.

Hi Again, I did not know these were scoreboard sealed sets. I bought a quantity of these and since they were similar to other Topps sets I have seen, like 1990 Topps Traded FB, I thought they were Topps Sealed. However, after seeing another "now" real Topps Rose factory set on ebay for 399.95, these obviously are a deal. Please send the set back unopened if you are not happy. It's crazy to read these boards, people jump to so many conclusions about everything. So I guess I'm a sleaze and Griffey Jr takes steriods too. People need to lighten up, we sell hunders of products, mistakes are going to happen, they certainly are not intentional. Thanks, Mark

Hi, this set had the factory TOPPS tape sealing the white box, that is from the factory. The set was indeed factory sealed, I have no idea what you are talking about. Mark

You listed this set as "sealed" it was not- the sealed auto sets have a borderless card number one auto'd and this was a opened set with a auto card with borders. You can see the set in the 2005 standard catalog. Mike
HE says to return the set UNOPENED. Yea right if I did not open it I never would have known it was a aftermarket Pete auto. What a expert he is

What a strange rant...
If I was looking at his site, I would not have ever guessed that the set with the correct auto'd Rose would be a 400.00 set...just no way. You can buy psa/dna rose autos on ebay for 40 bucks so why would I think that it would be a 400.00 set?
Another reason to do your homework before you buy...just that in this case, the seller was not honest.
<< <i>We all find deals now and again. The fact is that Murphy was pulling a fast one on the buyers by saying the autos were factory sealed with the set. You really can compare this "deal" to his vintage Christmas racks.

He gets way too much grief for the Christmas Racks. When he found them originally, it was considered a true find of repacked cards at the end of each year of production by a third party. Nobody disputed this. All the crap racks you see now are completely fraudulent and are not part of Mark's original find. I do not think the final answer of whether or not Mark's original find was a legitimate 3rd party repackage from the 50's and 60's or not?

You are kidding, right???
First of all, anyone with half a brain in this business can see that those cards are not "pack fresh" and that should have been warning number one. He is a so called pack expert so he should have EASILY seen that they were fake. Next, before dropping the crap load of them on the market, he should have done some research to see if these packs actually existed from Topps. If you ask me, he never got enough grief for them...he actually got a pass. He must have sighed a many big reliefs when he was able to convince people of that.

Did the set that came out from Topps have a autographed card that came with them??
Also the Standard Catalog has these listed as P.R.E Pete Rose Set and not a Topps set.

This 120 card set traces the career of Pete Rose through the 1985 season. Many cards feature photos used on earlier topss cards. Each card and the box in which they were sold says the set was "deigned by Topps chewing Gum Inc". The set was distributed within the hobby by Renata Galasso and the copyright-holder is identified as "P.R.E. Pete Rose Enterprises? Besides the topps photos, the cards include a number of origianl paintings by Ron Lewis.............A borderless version of card #1 was issued in an edition of 1,000 all cards being autographed.
This is out of the 2006 SCD

1) Why didn't he just immediately give a refund? If indeed it was an honest mistake, why is he fighting the paypal dispute? Steve Hart (and I suspect Dave & Adam) would've immediately offered a blanket refund for anything purchased, ESPECIALLY if the mistake was on their end. Moreover, why didn't he respond to Metalmike's three emails? All he had to do was say "Sorry for the mistake, send them back for a full refund" and he wouldn't be dealing with this "crazy message board" where people are jumping to so many conclusions.
2) How did he not know they were Scoreboard sets? They have a COA from SB inside each set, correct? If you bought cases of something that you weren't sure of its origin, wouldn't you open one just to make sure?
3) In various threads, only two or three people have said anything derogatory about Mark. Why would he attack the entire message board and a large potential customer base? Many things have been said on here about him being a good seller of unopened material and I think I've even recommended his unopened pack guide a few times, so now he's throwing out a blanket "Those guys are crazy and jump to conclusions" statement that completely alienates an entire group of collectors? Wow, just wow. Talk about poor business decisions.

Yes, The Baseball Card Kid Mark is your Gawd, and you must try and take him down. Bet you would like to be him, rather than a 'master collector' on this site.

Mark is a good dude. A little slow sometimes but he delivers on what he says. I purchased a 78' wax basketball box from him a few years ago and I am still pullin' PSA 10's out of it. chaz

Well from how I see it he was/is doing business. Nothing "Gawd" like there. Sounds like a job to me. If he wanted to help the hobby he could post his unopened guide free on his site for viewing. But instead he charges $. It's all about the $. His offer to circumvent ebay fees (against ebay rules) on his multi case auction, charging 3% extra if you pay with a credit card (against ebay rules). Not really "Gawd" like. I like my unopened pack sellers to be honest in all aspects of the transaction.
What have I done for the hobby? Offered advice on various card message boards and have a website that has info on the FF card. All for free.
BBCkid ever post his knowledge around?
And what kind of 6th grade word is this? -freakazoids.
So no, I dont want to be him.
Many valid points made by all parties. I have not bought from Mr. Murphy but probably will someday.
