Ok blast on comment of PCGS Or NGC grade bu Presidential Coins.

It makes no sense to me to watch a tv show or going to a coin show and seeing graded rolls of "BU" stickered Pcgs 1st strikes or NGC early releases rolls of Presidential dollars.

Am I wrong to think that the mint wouldn't sell the general public "BU" coins? Bu grade starts at MS 60 right? So what is the value of sending coins by the roll to any tpg or Tgp and paying juice to get a nasty looking sticker on a roll to verify they are legit?

Or what am I missing! Oh, I know someone hoping they get the "GEM BU" label.

And btw a whole roll of 20 the current Presidential 1st day issue roll of PCGS "BU" coins are selling for $69. All 8 President in 'BU' are $465.00 Give me a break!!image

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, then usually people don't send rolls to the TPGs for the express purpose of having them "BU" certified. Usually, a bulk submitter will send a bunch of boxes of coins, with a specified minimum grade. The coins that do not make the grade are put into tubes like this, with the label on the outside. The other option is encapsulation without a grade, like NGC's "BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED" slabs of Presidential dollars, silver eagles, morgan dollars, etc.

George, PCGS will grade sealed $1,000 boxes of Presidential Dollars as First Day of Issue if they qualify. In other words, the Do Not Open until Release Date sticker must be on the box.

What are the upsides? First Day of Issue edge lettered error or variety coins bring significant premiums. And I mean significant.

If a bulk submitter has an idea that a specific box has edge lettered errors or varieties in it, he may choose to go the roll route so that, once they are rolled and labeled as First Day of Issue, he can examine the edges through the clear tubes thay are sealed in. Find a Missing edge lettered coin, send the roll in for slabbing. Ca-Ching!

No guarantee on the grades but for an error or variety, the grade plays little in the overall price for First Day of Issue coins. However, get a high grade and score big.

The downsides are simple, lots of rolls to hawk.

BTW, PCGS puts these in $20 tubes at $15 per roll. A $1,000 box would cost you $750 plus shipping and insurance both ways.

    WRONG!

The only way to get First Day of Issue Rolls certified is by submitting the entire box for the roll service.

Coins that do not make the bulk submission minimum grade look like this:

    No labels, no nothing!

There was some talk of putting undergrade coins in these holders but last I heard PCGS wants fresh coins in the holders so that there is hope of cracking a roll of them in 20 years and grading an GW 67. --Jerry
