    or..it could be a Crusader-struck imitation of a silver dirhem of roughly the 1180-1250 period. This is a type the Crusaders apparently did strike imitations of, I think mostly in the early 1200's. Apparently there's a way to tell the difference between the Islamic issues and the Crusader imitations-- I'm not sure if it's a matter of style, or if the Crusader imitations were smaller perhaps.

    The six-pointed star is also known as the Seal of Solomon, and appears on - among other Islamic coins - many Moroccan issues.

    Muslims trace their lineage to the Jewish prophets, and since Solomon pre-dates Mohammad, he is an honored personage in the Islamic tradition.

    There was an Iranian currency issue, I think towards the end of the shah's reign. It had a six pointed star, which was quickly replaced.
